He was one of the 1960s/70s presenters of UK kids programme 'Blue Peter' (Daryl has a Blue Peter badge for his avatar)

Known for his fearless undertaking of all kinds of stunts, back in the days when health & safety was a minor issue , like this...climbing Nelson's Column, no safety gear, wearing flared jeans, on wooden ladders attached by ropes...

Sad news that James.

I suppose just as by dint of one's age, everyone has 'their' Doctor Who (mine was Jon Pertwee, even though David Tennant is my favourite) and their James Bond (in my case Roger Moore), those of us who watched Blue Peter will have their presenters. My era was that of John Noakes, Peter Purvis and Valerie Singleton.

Me too Steve, I lost interest with the next bunch, but here's an interesting (but poor quality) segment with them and Mike Oldfield recording the theme tune.

Don't think the BBC insured him either. Balls of steel to climb that!
