It's a pretty tune and your recording /mix sounds very nice. As a listener I'd like to hear that melody expanded on with some flourishes or improvisation, maybe even a harmony. It's a bit 'pedestrian' as it stands. The electric guitar sounds a little out of tune to me.

Thanks. The funny thing is that the guitar sounds out of tune to me, too, but I used the tuner built into Guitar Rig 5. Maybe it's not so precise or maybe they screwed up my guitar ?

I don't know, but any tuner is really just a starting point, and doesn't take into account the intonation of your guitar (i.e. it might be in tune played with open strings, but not played at the 9th fret, or 12th fret) Best to go with what your ears tell you.

Learned something new then. I just checked. The high "G" in "Jasmin's lullaby" bothered me yesterday, so I checked that actual note, which was a bit off, even though my tuner (external) was on the money on the open string. Didn't know that could happen. Thanks for the info.

Very nice recording of this -- mix is open and it's well arranged.  Just needs a little variation in the playing style.  And yeah, electric guitars can be a pain to keep in 'perfect' tune.  I know.  :)

Thanks, Allan. I will note the playing style. I feel I'm getting a bit better on the guitar.

Nice work. The melody is nice and the harmony works well. I guess what makes it a bit boring is the lack of development. If you're going to play the same melody, exactly, over and over, it gets boring. If you improvise around the melody when you repeat it, it gives it more interest.

Good work!

nothing much to add to what has been said already. as a way of learning to record the acoustic and mix it with the other instruments it is great, but it needs more to work as a song. there is plenty of scope for harmonising, inverting, improvising etc.

Nice tune, I'd say well balanced in the mix as well.

The tuner in Guitar Rig 5 fooled me, too, and I've stopped using it, as well as Guitar Rig 5. I don't like being lied to!!!   :)

Go with your ears or get Scuffham's S-Gear amp sim, the tuner in that works pretty well. I think the clip-on tuners (mines a Boss) work the best, though.

cheers,

Good sounding stuff, it is a Cannon chords progression though. I find myself following the same path, as have many musicians over the years, it's how you approach it that makes it different.

I really like the fact that you have a melody going on here, since I guess you don't sing. I don't sing and wish I could just add melody like you do sometimes.

I really enjoy hearing this song and some others of yours, they are very melodic and speak for themselves.

Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed hearing this.

Not much to add - it seems you're on the right path!   The melody lines though just need some personalization...  a few well placed slides, slurs and/or bends could make those lines "sing" more.   And I would definitely add a harmony line on that last time through to help build it up.

agree 100% with Steve - needs a little bit of character in the playing.
Very relaxing and the mix is spot on.
