I know I'm all over the place right now, but these new samples I bought are begging to be used.

This is a melody by a composer I stumbled on via genealogy. He's my great grandmothers half brother and I though it would be cool to rerecord one of his melodies. Also I wanted to practice arranging strings. I still don't think it sounds like a real orchestra, especially the end, so any tips are welcome.

Did you input this from the score Steen?

Sounds well put together to me. I'm not familiar with the composer...

Thanks for listening. No, I found a video online of the piece being playing on the violin. The rest is my own arrangement. He's not famous outside the local area. That's why I thought it would be fun to give his work some new life.

Well that's even more awesome and I wish I could do that sort of thing. Your arrangement is simple but well done in my opinion

Nice job Steen! When working on string arrangements, choosing the appropriate articulation for each part is super important. I think you did fine for your first attempt at using new stuff.

Thank you.
Yup. I did have the last violin at sustain and the fast part of the melodi was lost. Changing to Sforzando solved that.
Thanks for listening.

Being primarily a rock guy I probably don't have the best ears for it, but FWIW the orchestration sounded pretty good to me.

If this is your first stab at an orchestral piece then I'd say you're off to a fine start!  Particularly if the only thing you started with was the main melody - the supporting arrangement sounds like it was meant for it.
