Thanks, gswitz... I'll look into these tweaks as well.

Well... I've done all of the tweaks as per the Sweetwater link from msorrels, as well as the tweaks from gswitz's video.  I tried to update my usbport.sys drivers through the Microsoft hot fix (KB2529073), but it won't install... it tells me that it's not for my system (weird).  But a little research shows that others have had the same problem with this hot fix.

Still having major dropout issues... with AND without Waves plugin present.

Also, have tried again with the Waves licenses on a usb stick and disabled the NIC.  Same dropout results.

I almost at the point of parking the licenses on the cloud, and running a restore to just before I started this little venture.  I really like TrueVerb and SuperTap, but this is starting to look like it's more trouble than it's worth.

But this isn't just the Waves plugs causing problems is it?

It probably *is* worth going back to a restore point, if everything was working fine -and get everythign OK again. Then you can re-install the Waves plugins.

But this doesn't sound like a Waves problem...

Well I don't know for sure what's causing it... but it does seem like the problems started after I installed the Waves plugs.  And it seems to have gotten worse after making tweaks to try to correct things.  I'm running out of ideas.  I have seen that some people around here have had similar problems with Waves, but for the most part, I think people use them with no glitches.  I do find it curious though, that Waves only support the vst3 format for X3e and Platinum.

That usually means these are the only ones they tested on.

Ah... Fair enough.

Just a thought I'm having...

Does anybody know of a different usb driver I can try for my sound card?  It's a Scarlett 6i6 (1st gen), and the current driver that is listed in the MixControl software (help -> about) is 2.5.1.  Is there another driver available that maybe is a little harder to find on the Focusrite site?  All I see in the download section for my interface is the Scarlett Mix Control 1.8.  Maybe I'm missing something?

It sounds like you are running the Scarlett 6i6 2nd gen drivers on your 1st gen hardware?  That doesn't sound like a good plan.  Might be better to uninstall all the Focusrite software, reboot and reinstall the 1.8 version that matches the hardware.

Fixing your USB problems are still necessary though.  Doesn't seem like this problem really has nothing specific to do with Waves plugins.  If your system did work correctly in the past (seems doubtful to me, but OK) perhaps rolling back would be a good idea.

The MixControl 1.8 version was what I installed when I got my interface.  The 2nd Gen was not out yet, and I never installed any other software for my sound card since that first and only install.  I believe 1.8 is the version for the MixControl sofware, but the actual driver version it installed was 2.5.1 (at least it was for me at the time).

I'm open to any other ideas on fixing my usb problems.

I'm not really an expert but I did have some dropouts, clicks and pops recently and found the most comprehensive and easy-to-understand guide to solving it was here:-

In particular, check out section 4.5.2 "USB Power Ports Power Settings", I don't think anyone has suggested that yet.  Also, are you using all the features of LatencyMon to try to track down the driver/process causing the issue? this is also covered in the above guide.
