When I speak IRL to my SONAR buddies I say DAW.

When I speak to Daryk IRL I say arse.

Yeah, very few people know what I'm talking about when I say "Daw".... I'll wager most think I'm trying to do a Homer Simpson imitation and rather poorly.

So I just say "recording studio" ... a bit longer but at least they know what I'm talking about.
