I've been considering the Neumann KH120A's

I have Tannoy Reveal passives, but I'm planning to upgrade this spring.
I originally had a budget of one large, but I'm going to go up a little more and the Adam A7X & the Neumann's are on the short list.

The "KH" designation stands for Klein & Hummel - the actual manufacturer - so I'd expect them to be pretty decent speakers. However, anything with 5-inch woofers is going to need a sub. The matching K+H sub is quite pricey.

Klein & Hummel is just a different way to spell Sennheiser.

I agree with both sentences - and that's the sticking point on these and might be the deciding factor to pass on them.
Including the $$ for the sub actually puts me well into the next price point for monitors (sans sub) and I wanted to keep the monitor budget around 1.5k.

I'm seriously considering gutting my space here (bottom half of a split level) and going all-in with proper soundproofing (walls/ceiling/floor/doors) followed by proper treatment.
That'll be a significant chunk of change as it is, and adding in the K&H sub puts me way over what I plan to spend.

O.K., so now I am interested in the Equator D5, but more interested in the D8, as Mix Magazine mentioned many alternatives equal in quality and price to the D5, which included my Mackie mrkII, and the whole point of this purchase is to upgrade and add something completely different to my monitoring.

So, to mix things up, I thought the D8 would be perfect, seeing as how they are a coaxial design and different specs etc.

I am still interested in the JBL LSR4328P, except that for what they cost, I might as well get the Equator Q10...

Not so sure anymore about the Yamaha, as my audition of those went horribly bad, even though I went into it knowing that everyone said this about them..."they are harsh...if you can make you mix sound good on them, then your mix will sound good on anything", and I know they are considered the industry standard so to speak, but I only consider them for those reasons and not because they sounded good to me, my brother or my friend.
And I am still interested in the Event 20/20BAS. Especially since Ted Keffalo was the co-founder of Event and is the man behind Equator...

You don't necessarily need the K+H sub. There are plenty of less-expensive alternatives that'll do the job. A subwoofer only has to be reasonably flat for one octave: around 40-80Hz. Even a cheap sub can handle that plus or minus 3dB, which is plenty flat considering that your room acoustics are going to screw it up far worse than that.

The thing a sub woofer needs to be is relatively powerful.

It's all relative... if you don't have a sub that can put out enough clean and authoritative SPL to balance out the Fletcher Munson experience then it's not really contributing and it is probably just hurting the over all goodness that you can get with out a sub woofer.

Just wanted to post an update. These Adams are SWEET! I'm making some progress on mixing about 10 songs I recorded of a 7 piece band. There is no doubt in my mind that my mixes are better, and it's a lot more enjoyable to mix.

These turned out to be a GREAT purchase.
