My M-audio BX8's treated me well for the money, but I always loved the sound of the Yamaha HS80's and couldn't spend the dough...
Well I decided it was time to upgrade.  I know the HS80's are no longer made & the new ones are the HS8's so I went down to guitar center for one more listen (figured they look pretty close, made by the same people, probably sound similar too) & to buy, the guy there says ya gotta check out the new JBL's we just got in yada yada yada.... So I do, nope!  I still like the Yammies better even though they are $100 more each.  They list at $499ea.  They sell everywhere at $349ea.  I say the heck with it I want them, ring em' up!    The guy scans them in and his jaw drops.... He goes "Did you know there is almost  another $90 or so off each of these for the sale this weekend?! "  I said "no?" not getting excited figuring it was a mistake or an error somewhere....  They were on sale!  It wasn't marked on sale but it was.  I walked out with them for about $262 each!  I nearly crapped myself.  That deal was so damn good I needed a cigarette afterwards!    I should have just bought the sub to go with it at that point but I didn't.    I will have to pick that up during their next holiday sale.   I never enjoyed Columbus Day so much!

Funny I was just looking at that same Yamaha  Sub that goes with those monitors at Tom Lee music and he pointed at a Yamaha BR15 Cabinet they wanted out of their hair and I got it for $90! It's new just scuffed a little from moving it around the store for the last couple of years. He said nobody wants passive speakers any more.
Shopping on the internet is fine, but sometimes the best deals are in a real store. Good score. Those Yammy's are on my wish list too!

Yeah, the monitors are great so far, I spent about 20 minutes listening to music I have liked for years & my past mixes on them & then started mixing my current project.  Happy Camper!

Kicking back and listening to your favorite records is the best way to break in a new set of speakers! It takes more than 20 minutes, but give it a few days and your ears will eventually train themselves to "know" what a good recording is supposed to sound like on those speakers. Believe it or not, the kick-back-and-enjoy technique is actually based on real science and is more effective than all the scientific measurements you might undertake.

Just be sure to adjust the volume so you're listening at the same levels you normally mix at.

I think you'll enjoy those speakers, especially given the great deal you got. If nothing else, you now have those cool white cones like all the big boys.

Yeah Bit,  I have been listening more to dial my ears into them.  I also tried setting ARC up for them (I just put a post in the software forum) which I haven't used in years and it keeps crashing X2 on me.   These sound sonically similar to the BX8A's I had, just clearer, cleaner, the lows are more defined  and the high end hiss the M-audio's put out even when not playing music through them is noticeably absent.
