Hi Group,

I purchased Sonar Platinum a little over a year ago along with picking up the guitar after a 20yr break from it.
My Girl and I have been recording at the house when we have the time. Please have a listen to this original song I wrote and performed. My buddy Bob played an electronic drum set and Robin sang the back ups. I sang the lead and played the rest of the Instruments. I would love to add some keyboards to this song. If any of you that play keyboards are interested in collaborating on some originals I would love to send you the tracks over. Hey..... we all use Sonar here so I wouldn't be very difficult import and export the files back and forth.

Your feedback on the song and the mix would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Craig

Hello Craig ,
Wow that song was very nice
I enjoyed the songs vibe , all the things each player played , your singing and the guitar parts ...
I only listened once since I'm pressed for time at the moment . My impression is the Mix definitely 90 % + there

Welcome to the songs forum .

Craig,

Awesome song and the vocals are outstanding.   Really well done all around.   I might recommend adding a flanger or exciter to the chorus vocals (BGV's) to make them pop out a little bit more.  Mix is well done....  There are a few keyboard players here so hopefully you will get some collaborators.

Regards

Thanks Kenny,

I listened to your guitar playing. You can really think on your feet and your melodic compositions are true and not robotic... That's a rare find in a guitar player.

Thanks Mark,

I never realized that mixing was such a challenge until I started trying to do it myself. I have a new respect for the talented mix engineers out there.  I've got so much to learn about subtleties.

I loved your version of "NO Matter What" and "Wichita Lineman".  Did you arrange and record the strings? Really good stuff. Your mixes have good clarity.

Craig,

Thanks, appreciate the listen.   The strings in Wichita Lineman are MIDI data triggering NI Session Strings and are an approximation of the original recording.    I did not arrange them per say, but copied the original arrangement into my project as closely as I heard them.  Most of my covers I try to copy the original artist as closely as possible, including tempo maps.

I started doing covers really to learn recording techniques, mixing, arranging and overall production.  Haven't quite moved on to recording any original music yet and enjoy doing the covers --Still learning.

Regards

Nice sounding song, vocals are good, the guitar sounds well, the bass could do with being a little more obvious as could the kick which I think is what Kenny meant by the mix being 90% there.

Thanks for sharing.

Very powerful song, performances and especially the vocals.

Just need some slight TLC on the EQ. The mix is a bit low-mid heavy.

Obviously you're mainly a guitar player and I would suggest

1. 300HZ (or so) HPF on the guitars. Guitarists love that low end live but it's wasted in recordings, JMO.
2. Put some compression on the bass, HPF @80HZ and then rais it by about 20db.
3. HPF on the vocals, they are excellent and need to be a bit shinier IMO.
4. Toms are just tad boomy, personal for me taste there.

As myolpal says, welcome to the forum.
