Nice sounding song, vocals are good, the guitar sounds well, the bass could do with being a little more obvious as could the kick which I think is what Kenny meant by the mix being 90% there.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks
The most difficult thing for me is getting clarity and separation in my mixes. I'm gonna try and clean up the bottom end and get some slap in the kick. Bass Guitar needs to be heard for sure.

Very powerful song, performances and especially the vocals.

Just need some slight TLC on the EQ. The mix is a bit low-mid heavy.

Obviously you're mainly a guitar player and I would suggest

1. 300HZ (or so) HPF on the guitars. Guitarists love that low end live but it's wasted in recordings, JMO.
2. Put some compression on the bass, HPF @80HZ and then rais it by about 20db.
3. HPF on the vocals, they are excellent and need to be a bit shinier IMO.
4. Toms are just tad boomy, personal for me taste there.

As myolpal says, welcome to the forum.

Thanks Ed,

I've been experimenting with your suggestions. I'll post a clean up mix latter this week.
I've been struggling with mid low mud and mix clarity since the beginning.

I'm currently using the Yamaha HS5's  with a foam pad and it's very difficult for me to hear the bass and mid lows.
I often get what I think is a very good sound on these monitors and the mix sounds bad on most other speakers.

I think I'll have to get a couple of different monitors so that I can check the "translation" across other speakers.
This crap can get expensive.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I like your version of Fire...

Wow! This sounds super fantastic! As said above, this mix is very close to done. I'd dirty up that bass a little bit to get it to stand out more. Be careful HPF'ing everything as the overall sound could get too thin. When you can hear the HPF, you've gone too far. Personally, I like the toms the way they are, but the bass does need compression and something else to make it more audible and more defined. You think monitors are expensive...just wait until plugin fever strikes, lol.

Room treatment is just as important as the monitors and that may be part of the problem you are having with the bass. It's a very common problem. Treat the room, maybe add a sub, then see how your mixes change.

Great job on this and welcome to the forums!

Hello Craig ,
Wow that song was very nice
I enjoyed the songs vibe , all the things each player played , your singing and the guitar parts ...
I only listened once since I'm pressed for time at the moment . My impression is the Mix definitely 90 % + there

Welcome to the songs forum .

Thanks Kenny,

I listened to your guitar playing. You can really think on your feet and your melodic compositions are true and not robotic... That's a rare find in a guitar player.

Hello Craig ,

I appreciate you took the time to give a listen to some of my guitar playing  : )

Your music and playing is some of the best I've heard on this forum recently .

keep up the good work ,

Kenny

Great work Craig.

Sounds really nice, and like the rest said, - a killer vocal.

Might be the (poor) headset I'm listening on now, but to me the base could be a bit more defined. Other than that, great job on the mix.

Sounds great!  Quality composition, arrangement and performance.

This is the second song I've listened to and I think it's safe to say you've got a good thing going...     As with the previous tune the vocals and guitars are standouts for me.    Loved the solo.

Terrific song, great guitars. I would agree with some of the comments regarding the mix ;roll off some lows (300hz might be too much, but bapu is better at this than I am). EQ the vocals to make them a little brighter, but the vox themselves are fine. I like it
