Serious_Noize!
I'm just learning how to play the guitar by finger picking. I really don't know which direction to go, I just make stuff up and go with it like I did in this tune. That might be a good thing, and may be a bad thing. Time will tell I guess.

I must say though, it was a lot of fun to play at the time, and figuring out the pieces to the puzzle on the spot where my style of playing goes was on this is kinda what I was going for. Expression, although I think there should have been more melody. Or if I ever do a remake I will make Melody a top priority. But then again Melody can be many things, like a BASS, RHYTHM or LEAD......

This was improvised, A starting point where my playing style goes I guess you could say. Just piddling with my Guitar at the time and hit record.

Music to me is all about expression and the song you write, not techniques or showing off with speedy riffs because anyone can do that with practice.

Thanks for all the kind comments, I really do appreciate them all.  I am just getting started, but I thought I would reply with a few of my thoughts on the subject of finger picking and styles and how it pertains to me and what I have posted and such.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and reply!!!!

I'm thinking of getting a telecaster type of guitar to play more finger picking stuff, but I'm not sure if that would be my best choice, I haven't been to the music shop and haven't tried all the toy's they have to offer when it comes to playing guitar.

I know it ain't perfect, it's just a start on my playing this style and this new instrument you might say. And having the blues one lonely morning.....

Hi Serious_Noize! ,

Overall as far as the playing went , it was loose in the corners which is OK because you are working on a " new expressive playing type of thing too you "
I did like your playing ( listened the day you posted and just now )

I'm putting myself out  on a limb from this point on.....
As a Tele player for over 40 years , I'm not entirely convinced that a Tele would be the right type of guitar for this type of thing ...Yet, I'm absolutely sure it would be an improvement over the Epi Les

Since I have heard this clip at least 4 times, my impression is " Think Chet , what would Chet do ? "
For the record , I  happen to think you can nail that type of sound in Spades

In your travels, if you ever happen to make it to a music store with a little time to kill , I think you would do well to try out an Epi semi hollow like a Casino w P 90's , A Gretch w filer-trons pick ups  or w DeArmond 2000 single coil style pick up s ...A Strat w flats using the neck middle pick up combo would also sound very nice  ...

Didn't mean to go all OT on you , I did like your playing .

all the best,

Kenny

Reason I say Tele, well, when I say Tele, I'm talking about a Squier Knockoff for 199 dollars with a maple neck, which honestly I like rosewood but maple seems to be longer lasting.

It's a money thing where guitars go for me, and I wouldn't mind trying to play some slide guitar blues stuff. And by that, I don't mean adding slide guitar blues lead only additions to songs, I mean an entire song with slide guitar like Ry Cooder has done and things like that.

That's why I was thinking a maple neck tele might be good for me overall. Although I'll be the first to admit, I haven't looked at modern guitars or shopped in years for anything where guitars go, I simply don't have the money nor do I wanna get my hopes up by wasting my time shopping for something that will never happen. Although that's me.

I love the things you have posted Kenny, they are AWESOME! And Thank you for taking the time to go out of your way with advice, I will keep it in mind. I'm kinda torn, I need the Strat for my Hard Rock pick playing stuff, and thought the Cheap Tele Strat I mentioned would be perfect for finger picking and slide guitar which I wanna learn more of. What I have now is an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, it's okay. When I got it, I thought the small neck would be perfect for me, then I realized I am basically playing a guitar that is a 2 by 4 with strings and some knock off humbuckers.

My old guitar was a Martin Stinger, which had a knock off floyd rose, which I got over 20 years ago, it's beyond fixing, too much to explain. Although I will say, it was a good knock off of the Fender Strat HSS style of guitar for it's time. The new Fenders from what I understand or at least the one I'm hoping to buy sometime in the near future has a HSS configuration and REAL FLOYD ROSE unlike my knock off years old guitar, but most importantly, it has a Routed body where the pick configuration goes instead of that 2 by 4 solid would, meaning it will resonate with sound when you hit a string instead of it just being caught by the pickup only where sound goes.

Anyway, thank you so much for your advice Kenny, I really appreciate it very much!

I am no pro, and I am just trying to explain my situation and experience when it comes to guitars and such.

Good Lawdy Lord ... Serious_Noize! ,

Between all the typing  you and I have done in this thread ,
I think it would be sufficient to say that both sets of our fingers have gotten a serious work out during this correspondence .

My moneys on the idea that "we both could safely bypass our daily guitar scale practice routines for today "

I'm all in for you getting a Squier Telecaster ...I actually posted this post of mine for your benefit in my thread
http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3414861
The same guitar model you want to buy is the same guitar model I played on the song ...only mine was bought used , plus I modified it (since I do my own work ....up to a degree )

I certainly know exactly what it's like not to have a lot of Cash .
In Truth , I'm very grateful to play what I do have ...
My Axe's and gear range from very top shelf to " what ? are you serious ?...you played that and got that sound ! "

I routinely sidestep all questions online when people ask me what my signal chain is and what guitar I'm using ...
FWIW, My signal chain and what guitar I played on a song is generally kept very close to the vest .....
That space is always for Rent  I have some of the gear I was gifted with in the past ..even as a total unknown , which I still am apparently lol

Guitar brand snobbery is absolutely one of my pet peeves .
I will purposely play a 200 dollar Les Paul or Tele knock off on a tune because it may work the best for the tune .
Then I will post my tune on a Cork Sniffer Guitar Forum where "whats on the head stock is all that matters " to some folks ..
I won't even tell them that I'm not playing the Les I own, a Gibson Historic R 8 Custom Shop , or my Vintage Tele

You get where I'm going with this ?

As far as my suggestions on guitars before go , I was thinking out loud and It ain't no big thing
play and buy what makes you happy

As far as your Epi goes ....I think I'm gonna keep an eye out for one of those used on CL

I love taking guitars of that quality , fixing them up , adjusting them , using emm on a tune , and then posting the tune where I used that "standard of quality " Axe over at forum where the official "Internet Head of Guitar Brands & Models " featuring "Head stock Inspector # 68 " is in charge

Guys like Inspector # 68  always talk about the bloom of the tone  , the airiness of the guitars sound and pickups , the pedigree of their Dumble Clone , the flame of the maple cap and 10.000 other things that are absolutely meaning less ....

If only they Knew , Yes, If only They Knew ...

If this was all about playing pool instead of playing the guitar , they would have found out that they just got beat at the game of hustling pool by a guy using a broomstick   that is if I did spill the beans

all the best,

Kenny

Dang it James, Can't you see that me and this Genius guitar player are trying to talk  with JUST A FEW WORDS here!!! Hahahahahahaha I'm kidding my friend. Dang, I just lost a few Christmas card being sent out with that last reply I guess.

Thanks for the input, I keep thinking that might be a good guitar for my purposes, I guess it depends on how your output or uses are, or by that I mean amps and or plugin it into an interface with settings to a daw for recording on a PC & Sonar and such.

Hopefully I'll get the chance to find out sometime in the near future.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and we are not AXEHEADS, the 80's are gone, were more of a SABER type of guitar playing genre now days, You know Darth Vader players because I think that sounds cooler. Hahahaha Just kidding. Thanks again!
