I have 4 weeks to decide.

If it's out of the way and somewhat unnecessary (i.e. depending on which is your natural chewing side) I'd say extraction.

It's right up top right, which is my usual chewing side, but I'm thinking the same.

How timely.  I just had one extracted a week or so ago.  Many years ago, I had a root canal and crown done on it. $$.  A few years later, it needed to be re-root canaled. $$.  Then it started up again.  Ended up it was cracked underneath.  No choice but to extract. $$.

I spent a lot of time, $$ and experienced much grief.  If I could have a do-over it would have been extracted the first time around.  In the long run it would have been cheaper and more permanent to do that and go with an implant.

Ouch......I'd hate to be in your shoes.

I just had a deep cleaning which required anesthetic injections and it was very unpleasant (to say the least)......I can take pain anywhere on my body, just not in the face.

It's the same with cancer, just cut it out.  I say extraction.

I chose extraction when I was broke and had no dental benefits.  15 years later, i still think it was the right choice.
Now that i've got 50% dental coverage, it would be hard to decide.

If I could afford it, i'd probably vote for root canal.  If it would be too costly for comfort, extract.

I guess it also depends on whether the gap would be visible.

Visibly missing teeth can be a good thing.  When people see missing teeth they don't expect much from you ;)

I've had 50/50 dental for all of mine.  It adds up though.

Will National Health pay for it? And it's maintenance? Do it.
If not, yank it.
My $1,000 root canal broke in half and I can't afford to get it repaired. If it starts bothering ne, I'll have it pulled and I'll put it on the mantle; it cost more than all my guitars combined!

No, I'd have to pay for it.
