  • Waves Platinum bundle and Addictive Drums 2 stupid question from a novice

Everyone - I started analog recording back in the 80s. The 90s I converted to digital stand alone recorders. Nine months ago, I converted to Sonar - learned a ton since then. So this is a stupid question from a rookie using Sonar.
I have Sonar Platinum and the Waves Platinum bundle.
(Not at my PC right now)
So, do you update the Waves bundle and the Addictive Drums 2 like you do with SPLAT?
I bought the lifetime SPLAT so I got that updating down.
The Waves website mentions upgrades - would that be the updates? Just wondering - it looks like you have to pay for upgrades there - if it was like SPLAT with one price for lifetime updates that would be cool. (With Waves does upgrade mean the same as update)?
Same question for Addictive Drums 2 - have not attempted anything with AD2 yet. Are there updates for AD2?

Most of the 9 months since getting SPLAT has been just me doing production and mixing. My questions must seem like a d'uh you idiot questions! Ha!

Waves upgrades are to "higher bundles"...i.e...from Platinum to
Diamond, Horizon, or Mercury.

Waves updates are done via WUP.  When you purchase you get
1 year of WUP which means that, if the bundle gets "upgraded",
which, in the case of bundles means a new version or an added
plugin...you get them for free for that 1 year.  After that you have
to buy "Waves Update Protection", which is "insurance" that you
continue to receive any updates or add ons to the bundle

Waves rarely updates their pluins. They may upgrade their packages with new plugins and you would only get those if your WUP (Waves Update Plan) is in force. You got a year of WUP when you bought Platinum.

Caveat: Just because Waves introduces an new plugin, dos not mean you get it. It must be a new plug that is part of your Platinum package.

Further caveat: The Abbey Road or SSL bundles never add a new plug for free, but are offered at a discount to those that own the package.

WUP is optional.

AD2 has an online installer that you run independently. When you run it it will update anything you own. AD2 alos has add on packs (kist) and MIDI packs (grooves etc) for purchase. Once you own those they too woiuld be upodated in the online installer *free of charge).

Hope this helps.

Sam,  you also need Waves Central to install
and get the updates....which I'm sure you're
aware of...

Totally helped. On the AD2 - downloaded and installed that 9 months ago. I think the company is XLN, right? Do they have updates like SPLAT does? Or is AD2 software that does not require updates....wait, does that even exist? Ha! Ha!
Just curious, because I have not even looked into buying more drums/beats/midi from XLN for AD2. So far - no need to.
The lifetime updates for SPLAT is pretty cool though.

Yes XLN has updates and, if they are available (very rarely)
then the OLI will let you know they are available and you
can install them directly from there....
