Anyone have any opinions on how these two guitars match up? I played some acoustic guitars at Guitar Center and finally decided to go with the Taylor 110 because it had nice, deep, full sounding bottom end but also sounded crisper than the competing guitars in its price range.

The problem is that I can might be able to get a Taylor 214e(Fishman pickup) at a similar price but have never played that model. I was wondering if any of the guitar buffs have played these two guitars and could give me an opinion on which to go with.

Thanks

The 110 is a dreadnaught bodied guitar, so it'll be deeper and bassier sounding making it better suited for strumming and flatpicking. It will also be less well balanced (the 3rd & 4th string won't be as loud as the others). A concert grand body is best for fingerpicking because it's very well balanced and the notes will really jump off the fretboard with minimal effort. It won't be quite as loud or have as much low end though. In the middle of the two is the auditorium grand body and that's what the 214 is. It's the best of both worlds. It's still well balanced and has both a deeper and louder tone, just not quite like a dreadnaught. An auditorium grand body is the best all around style to have if you do a little bit of everything--fingerpicking, flatpicking, strumming. Lead players generally go for a dreadnaught, but a auditorium body is still very loud and fine for flatpicking.

I have a 110 that I really love. I just wonder how you can get these two guitars at near the same price. If they're both new (assumption) the 214e s/b at $275.00 more than the 110. That said, I agree with the other reply that the 214 is more of a 'Jack of all Trades'. I mostly strum, so I prefer a dreadnought and I will alway mic it. This link to my site has an example of the guitar miked with a cheap Nady SP9 recorded live into Music Creator.......

Could have got the 214e for five hundred on e-bay buy I drove out to guitar center to play both of them and actually liked the 110 much better. Joe's description of the sound was dead on. The 110 had a deep, bassy sound and the 214 a thinner, brighter sound that's very similar to the Epiphone I'm replacing.

I decided I was going to get the 110. That is, until I picked up the Taylor 310CE. Unbelievable guitar but at a pretty steep price. I'm definately going with one of those two.

Thanks for the help.

With  Taylor, I don't think you can make a wrong choice....

It is however, a matter of taste and personal preferences.  Play them both and then decide which one's tone and feel you like the best.

Curious.  I've been considering acoustic guitars this weekend and I'm wondering what characteristics would you look for in a "studio only" instrument?  I would also need a one size fits all because a visiting artist could be any style and I would hope that if they showed up with an inferior instrument, I could offer a better recording choice.
