I really enjoyed this. You mentioned that it's a mix of several musical styles and I'll agree with that.
The African kind of sound at the beginning reminded me a bit of Paul Simon and then around 2:50 I'm thinking of Vangelis. I wasn't too sure about that wah-wah sound in there though.
I really liked the bass line which as you said helped tie things together. Very well done.

A wonderfully happy mixture of percussive and melodic instruments!
The clarity and balance of the mix is impressive. The arrangement is big, wide open and musically in bloom.
As a musician I always make the same mistake of listening to the production first, and not the song itself.
This time the song immediately grabbed my attention. The vibe is that strong.
Well done sir, well done!

Thank you Mark! It took a while to balance everything out. I think there were something like 9 "final" mixes before I was mostly happy with it, lol. Glad you enjoyed the song!

Dan, I completely agree with Mark as he put it really well. I'm listening to this on H-Phones and can truly appreciate all the details you've put into this.....talk about clarity and very well balanced mix......it was simply a pleasure to listen to this. Great thing to have such quality musicians/engineers as yourself in these forums.
Bravo!!

Actually, this mix is very clear both with and without headphones. You are doing somehing right when you can reach that point!

9 mixes! I can barely keep track of one! My work flow is way too archaic to do multiple mixes! Once mine start to sound bad, I tear it all down, remove all effects and start over. I really need to learn to use the mix snapshot feature.

Dan,

Great track..  I was expecting Paul Simon to start singing after the intro:)    Very pristine mix.

Great feel/vibe in this track!  It's eclectic for sure when listening to specific parts, yet overall it's still somehow unified.    Not an easy thing to do.  And do well.

As others mentioned the mix is nice and open, wide and airy.   But that seems to be your standard so not really unexpected.

I second what Mark said!  This is a great example of how to use dynamics to make a song breathe, and I would refer those, who are dynamically challenged, to this song.

Thanks Lynn! It was cool watching the compressors react to different parts of the song as I was dialing things in. I learned a lot doing this one.

Regards,
Dan
