Listening to this on my KRK's. I like the wideness of this mix and not sure if this is intended but it reminds of YES in places. I'm not hearing what Rikkie is but that may be a mix translation/listening environment issue.
hi biodiode,
i used to have a set of the small trapezoidal KRK's, they were nice speakers...
the BIG ones i've heard, are pretty bad @ss....
wideness of mix....
this was mixed mostly LCR,
but the NEW mix i'm working on, i've brought things in a bit.....
not intended to ever sound like anything else,
my tunes just land the way they do on their own...
i've always love early YES, but have never learned any songs other than singing along with the albums.....
when you talk about levels of 'highlighted' or solo tracks,
it's always a subjective opinion......
i could mix stuff super hot,
way up front,
and call it 'solo level mix' decision.
but i never mix that way,
well, i say never, sometimes i DO lean on something heavy for intensity,
but on this one, i was going for a vibe, and i mixed it as i played it.......
i BACKED OFF on the solo,
because it felt so personal, and reflective,
it did not make sense to me to mix it hot......
so in a way,
i captured a moment on 'tape', and i left it as it was played.
the new mix,
i'll probably bring it up a bit,
and take a different approach altogether,
and that's why i posted this,
it's a GREAT method for me, of bouncing ideas, i steal your ideas.
LOL
