Hi BB, nice one, like it, lead acoustic seems to get lost a bit in the mix, imho.

Listening to this on my KRK's. I like the wideness of this mix and not sure if this is intended but it reminds of YES in places. I'm not hearing what Rikkie is but that may be a mix translation/listening environment issue.

I remember this song-I liked it before and I like it now.  It's got to be close.  Perhaps, juice up the cool but subtle percussion?  EQ wise, it is crisp and pops out of the speakers quite well.  It shouldn't require much change.

HEY RIKKIE,
that lead.....
i'm so on the fence about that...

i want it to almost be in the background..... almost an afterthought...
as if the listener could just daydream into the soundscape, and the solo isn't so much of a solo,
as it is a feeling...........

this was a pretty much 'train of thought' arrangement, very off the cuff, i sat down with one acoustic guitar, no click, no set arrangement in mind, and literally created this thing on the fly...

i went back, learned what i did, then added 'flavors' to it, multitracking it and building it up....
i don't do songs like this very often, but this one was kinda special...

Hi BB, the song is absolutely perfect and I'm not saying you should make that lead acoustic louder but on my crappy speakers and my crappy ears ; ) the bass is covering the low register of the lead acoustic. but after reading your thoughts about it, it does make sense. Still, lovely song and sounds !

I listened on 280 pros.  Sounds perfect.  The imperfections make it charming. what a great song!  great driving music.  It has the same appeal as  a song like *Wide Open Spaces* by the Dixie Chicks, but your orchestration is much more complex than that of course.

hi biodiode,
i used to have a set of the small trapezoidal KRK's, they were nice speakers...
the BIG ones i've heard, are pretty bad @ss....

wideness of mix....
this was mixed mostly LCR,
but the NEW mix i'm working on, i've brought things in a bit.....
not intended to ever sound like anything else,
my tunes just land the way they do on their own...
i've always love early YES, but have never learned any songs other than singing along with the albums.....

when you talk about levels of 'highlighted' or solo tracks,
it's always a subjective opinion......
i could mix stuff super hot,
way up front,
and call it 'solo level mix' decision.

but i never mix that way,
well, i say never, sometimes i DO lean on something heavy for intensity,
but on this one, i was going for a vibe, and i mixed it as i played it.......
i BACKED OFF on the solo,
because it felt so personal, and reflective,
it did not make sense to me to mix it hot......

so in a way,
i captured a moment on 'tape', and i left it as it was played.

the new mix,
i'll probably bring it up a bit,
and take a different approach altogether,
and that's why i posted this,
it's a GREAT method for me, of bouncing ideas, i steal your ideas.
LOL

Sounded great man!!! Your vocals always are for real, I like that about you. The music is great also, makes me think of a different time and place. Very dreamy sounding.
