I made this out of MDF plywood, a layer of Aurelex Sheetblock, 2" foam, fabric to cover the front & sides, Fake leather for back, and some hardware from Home Depot to mount it on a speaker (type) stand.  Works pretty well & I had almost all of this stuff lying around from previous projects!   Sometimes I have bands in here (it's a 1 room studio) that need to have the vocals there to get through a song.  Generally, I run guitars, basses, etc. DI to get scratch tracks and keep noise out of the room while tracking the drums....  But then ya get  "well, we don't know where we are in the song without the vocals....!"  While I am thinking... "Learn your own damn songs better then"  I needed a way to minimize the bleed into the drum overheads from the vocalist singing (at my request) as softly as he can.   So, in these instances this should help do the trick.  I also like what it does for my vocal tone when tracking keeper vocals.

Looks real nice, I'm sure it's heavy. I'm thinking on building one from a wireframe music stand.

There's no reason a baffle has to attach to a mic or music stand, other than looking cool. They're actually more effective if they extend from floor to ceiling. Mine are 6' tall with wooden feet that raise them another 6". They're 2' wide and I have 9 of them so I can rearrange them for different applications. They only weigh about 10 lb each, so moving them isn't backbreaking.

For sure, bit, but when your studio is an 80-square ft family owned/cluttered room with no storage space, ya sometimes do have to cut down :P

It does have some weight to it but that was by design I suppose.  I made it with Medium Density Fiberboard & added the sheetblock to help stop sound as much as possible, then the foam to help the acoustics around the mic.  I know that because of it's size it's not going to stop all of the sound of a singer from reaching my drum mic's, but it should help knock it down another 8-10db enough that it is not a major issue in the mix.

Looks awesome, I'd love to hear some dry samples.
