Is anyone experiencing intermittent crashes in Sonar Plat when loading up any of the Sonivox instruments? I'm running RME hardware on a carefully maintained install of Win 10 Pro 64, and generally Sonar is nice and stable. I have few problems. But loading up Sonivox VSTs tends to be a bit of a crap-shoot. I have all the usual suspects -- the orchestral companions, Eighty-Eight Ensemble, Big Bang Cinematic percussion, etc.-- and every now and then one of them will crash Sonar. Sometimes at load up, sometimes when I'm in the middle of recording.

Last time it happened Big Bang Cinematic Percussion was the culprit. Loaded it up, played about bar's worth of music and then Sonar crashed. After re-booting, I fired up Reaper and tried to launch BB from there. It promptly crashed Reaper too, which impressed me, since I find Reaper all but indestructible.

Anyone else experiencing this?

That's because Reaper never met Sonivox.

I'll see if I can duplicate in Sonar.

Crashed for me in Sonar.  Clicked one note in piano roll - instant crash.

No crash in Reaper. Was it a certain preset?

Do I dare test my other DAWs?

The first time in Reaper the crash was on load up; I didn't even get out of the gate. Tried loading up Big Bang Cinematic and boom! down goes Reaper. Tonight I tried it again, and Reaper crashed on the second note of the default preset (Action Ensemble 1). In fact, I can reproduce the Reaper crash at will. Every time.

I tried it in Samplitude with no problems (yet...).

This may be a known issue with BB: https://getsatisfaction.com/sonivox/topics/big-bang-cinematic-percussion-vst-gui-crash-9qjw1yke35mhn

There is mention of a workaround, but I haven't tried it.

Update: I can reproduce the BB crash in Sonar every time, too. The 'workaround' doesn't work at all for me...I actually don't remember Big Bang being this bad before. I've used it in the past (I like it, has some very useful sounds), so it wasn't always a guaranteed crash. But now it is. The other ones that crash for me on a semi-regular basis are the Martin guitar, and 88 Ensemble.

The Big Bang Cinematic Percussion crash is a known bug.  It's even crashing on Macs.

See the SONiVOX forum.  https://getsatisfaction.com/sonivox

The best workaround so far is to enable the "Learn" button, before playing any notes.

I assume they are working on a fix, but no ETA so far ...

Other than the Big Bang crash, the other SONiVOX VST's are playing well with Sonar for me.

Same here.  Wobble and Twist create an error on my Intel machine but work on the AMD rig.
I guess the other work around is buy IKs version for $49.

I guess in the Sonivox collection there is no orchestra percussion.

The other Sonivox plugs work -most- of the time in Sonar, but I've experienced enough crashes in the past couple of months (maybe 3 or 4 crashes in total) that they bring an air of suspense when they're loaded up. Sonar is rock stable otherwise.

This evening I've been toying around with an impromptu project using the Sonivox plugs in Samplitude, and so far no problems at all -- including Big Bang, which works perfectly in Samplitude, but apparently crashes everything else under the sun on both PCs and Macs. Weird.

Yes I have raised this issue before (as have others) ....

and coincidentally it was giving me major problems again yesterday.

This time I found that enabling the Learn button before playing any notes didn't stop the crash.
What does seem to work for me now is to close the Big Bang Percussion UI before playing any notes then save the project. After doing that I didn't have any crashes even working on the project for a few hours.
Sonivox have now acknowledged that there is a problem but they don't seem to be in a hurry to fix it.

The SONiVOX community forum is not a tech support resource, but like this forum, is a peer to peer resource.  The moderators attempt to provide guidance on how-to and setup issues, but if there is a real support issue, they recommend submitting a support request here: http://sonivoxmi.com/support

I submitted a request about one of my products and received a response that it was not yet fully supported on Windows 10.  I have since learned that many of their products are only tested for compatibility up to Windows 8.

However, they do not state that they are not compatible with Windows 10.

Here is a typical staff response: "Our testing team is hard at work verifying the compatibility of our entire product line. Future Windows 10 support updates will not be posted here on our forum. Please check compatibility for your product on your product page under the COMPATIBILITY section for any future updates"

"Note: while many of our products seem to be working in Windows 10 without issue, it's extremely important to make sure that your host or DAW of choice is supported as well."
