Are these Violins and Cellos any good for serious musician? I read reviews and some people suggested buying better strings and bow makes different. This be my 1st Cello or Violin.

You may find this video of interest. It talks about how violins are constructed, from an engineering perspective, and includes some comments about why cheap violins sound bad. I found it fascinating.

When I had my music store I brought in a few of these same quality instruments. You will never make what we call music on one. I would say around $300 min for  playable violin. 
A good set of strings costs more than those whole kits so you can only imagine how bad they really are.
