Since it is still allergy season, I have not been able to record any vocals --- so, I went back to the old working files and dragged out this number.  I believe it might have been the second number that I submitted to this forum (way back when).  I was a newbie and the mix and recording was pretty awful but you all were very kind with your suggestions and I cleaned it up and got it to sounding a bit better.  However, it still needed work.  So, I have worked on it again and even re-recorded a couple of tracks (not vocals -- aaachoo).  I am too lazy to re-record the whole thing but hopefully these changes will make it acceptable.

I came across a reference about this song in a book "Music And Dance In Florida" that mentioned this song as a favourite song of Florida's "Cracker" cowboys.  A few people have recorded this song (e.g., Tex Ritter and Woody Guthrie).  Each version sounded different from each other.  Search as I did, I could not find a composer of this song.  Several sources listed it as a "traditional" song.  So, like a lot of Blues songs, I guest somebody came up with the original song and the song traveled around the country.  Musicians in each location to which it traveled undoubtedly changed, added, and/or dropped verses and probably changed the original melody and the "somebody" that came up with the song was lost.  Anyway, I came up with the music for my own version and this is what I am stuck with.

Any further suggestions, that you may have, would be appreciated and I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks.

Good work, I liked the vocals a lot. A lot of it is good already. I like the mix, I would have decreased the 50-ish delay a tiny bit. The song gets a bit static after a while because everyone playing all the time. Maybe let the nice vocals come forward first round with muting the guitar fills there?

I like Rye Whiskey but I do not drink nice tune, well played perhaps a dB or 2 on the vocal just to bring it forward a little more in the opening verse.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi Freddy, fun tune, quite a toetapper even for a teetotaller like me.I would like the lead guitar a bit louder and it sounds a bit dry, slap on a bucket-o-verb ; )

Great, I'll have that in my head the rest of the day.

Sounds pretty good overall IMO, as the style calls for.   Though I do agree with Leizer that bringing parts in and out a bit could help build more dynamics and allow the vocals to shine through.   Then again, this is rye whisky...

Leiezr, Scotty, John, Rik, and Steve.  Thanks to you all for listening.  Each of you had great suggestions and I appreciate them all.  I was going for a kind of county folk song for this number (that's why I did not include drums).  In retrospect, this was a dumb thought --- they didn't have electric guitars back in the old Florida Cracker days.  So, I will make some changes and bring more into the 21st century (sans drums) -- including your suggestions.
Thanks again!!!
