a very old favourite... synth1 by the japanese guy.. but the extra presets make it and cpu wise it's light
TAL freebies (lot are discontinued now), BUT I like his products I ended up buying the priced versions

melda, again the freebies are good. but the whole "buy once" offer made me go for it
there are a few fx vsts that have got the most awful gui's... but are useful. and no I won't say what, the less that use em.. the better ;-)
not a vst, but I use wavsaur (donate ware) a fair bit instead of loading up a full blown wav editor.. very quick
