I recently started using my Motu gear on a new Win7 x64 box with the latest Motu drivers.
 
I use ASIO with my DAW programs but some apps, like FooBar2000 and C.D. Architect, only use the AudioWave drivers.
 
They don't work so well. I am noticing some drop outs, where as the ASIO seems real solid. I tried messing with sample buffer size and noticed that if you go to large the drop outs get worse.
 
Is it just me? Am I Crazy? Those apps worked great in my Win XP x86 machine at ANY buffer size I happened to be on.

I'm going to experiment with some of the choices in the MOTU driver to see if the apps that use Audio Wave drivers can see some of the other drivers... but I doubt any of the options will do that.
 
I'm Kinda wondering what I might do as I have a 4.5Gz system that seems to cough while playing back 2 track stereo files even though it can do big multi tracks ok.
 
Yesterday I had Task Manager open and when it choked while CD Architect playing back a stereo file.
 
I noticed that core number 3 went from almost 0% to 100% even though it seemed like core #1 was the core processing the audio.
 
DPC looked "normal" for my new Win7 install although it is much higher than my old XP system.
 
I'm gaining a great appreciation for Win XP 32 bit. It seems much more stable than Win7 and I waited for Win7 to be fully mature before making the switch. Watching the OS's process the same file on 2 different machines with Task Manager open shows you how wiggly the performance in Win 7 is compared to the steady flow I see in Win XP.

I just checked the "Use WaveRT for Windows Audio" option in the MOTU Audio Console driver dialog.
 
I checked in FooBar2000 and CD Architect and I don't have any new choices. The old choice said "MOTU Audio Wave for 64bit" and it seems as if that's what it says after I checked the box mentioned above.
 
Is it possible that I swapped out the drivers behind the scenes? I haven't had time to compare performance.
 
Any thoughts?

Afaik, "Wave" refers to the old Windows MME (pre-WDM) driver.
 
By any chance, have you ticked the box labeled "Enable Full Wave Support for Legacy (MME) Software" in your MOTU interface's setup console applet? This should only be necessary when using applications which don't support WDM or ASIO drivers.
 
MOTU's driver naming is a bit odd though; they claim their USB/FW drivers support WaveRT although afaik WaveRT only works with PCI/PCIe interfaces. Dunno.

I just got a MOTU product and spent the afternoon getting to know it. AFAIK, they pretty much use the same driver architecture for all their products. They install both the the WDM and ASIO drivers. For some reason, there's not a tick box for legacy MME, I think their simply installing it by default now since people might get confused. You should enable the WaveRT option, WaveRT behaves similarly to ASIO, you can set a buffer size. There's no reason not too - and Sonar works great with it.

Since I own CD Architect, I checked and all of the Ultralite's output's appear there - you do need to select classic wave driver.
