Lynn
Hello to all my forum friends.  I have a brand new song for you to dissect.  It's a little on the grim side, but it's not meant to be gloomy.  I think it might make a good video, but I want to be sure about the mix before I commit to putting it in Vegas.  Any and all suggestions are welcome, so hit me with your best shot.  Thanks for your time!

It can be found here: http://www.soundclick.com...ngid=13335986&q=hi

From the very start, it is clear to me that your recording and mixing skills have really grown over the last couple of years. Very clear recording, lots of clarity in the vocals and the instruments aren't fighting with the vocal or each
other.

The horn(s) that comes in sound a little too close, IMO. I'd push them further back for that STAX, Tower of Power sound.

Great job Lynn!

Regards,
Dan

Good tune. A couple things:

You might accentuate the interesting chord change at 00:22 in - Add a little volume, or maybe add a guitar high note and lean into the change a bit.

Maybe you could eq a little more of the lows out of the lead vocal and take a listen.

Interestingly, the subject matter of this song reminds me of my very-different sounding "Who Ya Gonna Blame", which also has a youtube video.

Good  job.

Cool tune.... it has a slight psychedelic sound to the guitar.... a flashback to the 60's kind of tone and playing.

Lovely tune. Excellent mix - nice and clear.  Reminds me of an old Harry Chapin tune except darker. Love the horns... nice touch. Yes this could be the essence of a nice video.... Good luck with it! Nice job! I like that little bit at the end
( stick transcients? ) perhaps in the video you could lead in with it with foot steps ???

I like how it starts off dreamy . It gives me the opportunity to zone in on the lyrics and songs message .
On a social level people are confused and fed up with what your songs message is all about .
At 1:46 I think the music is good , Yet I think the musical end needs to reflect more attitude and anger for that section of the song .
What you did there was good as is ,  Yet why not tap into peoples anger and frustration ? and give them an anthem .

all the best .

Thanks to all who have taken the time to listen.

Makke, thanks for your kind words!

Dan, you've given me much good advise over the years, and I think some of it has sunk in.  I'm lowering the horns on the next pass.

Bob, thanks for your ideas which are good.  I'll listen carefully to the vocal's EQ next time.

Herb, you have a very good ear.  I used the "House Burning Down" preset in my S-Gear sim.

Bob, the ending came from a Z3ta + 2 preset.  Actually, the long version of this song starts with those sounds along with a string arrangement, but the song ends up being 5 minutes long, so I left it off.  Thanks for your contribution.

Kenny, I like your ideas, but I'm reluctant to tap into that anger and frustration that so many feel.  This is my personal statement on death (all kinds) which reflects my sadness, not anger.  There are a lot of people in society that reflect anger and frustration already, but I'm not one of them.  I think we already have a good anthem in this country.

Hey Lynn, when I said push the horns back, I wasn't really talking about levels. I'm talking about the space they reside in. If you listen to some TOP or similar, you'll hear that there is always some ambiance on the horns to give them a space of their own. After pushing them back into their own space, then you can reevaluate their levels.

Dan
