Hi all,
I would love to have some feedback on this acoustic-based instrumental cue.
Be nitpicky and don't pull any punches.
Instrumentation:
Piano - CFX Concert Grand
Acoustic Guitar - Ilya Efimov Acoustic Guitar
Lead Guitar - Indiginus Renegade
Violin - Virharmonic Bohemian Violin
Bass - some generic Kontakt bass, sorry not on the DAW at the moment
Drums - Addictive Drums (some indie kit)

Thanks!

Very nice. I like when the violin comes in. Prior to that, the melody is not really apparent, though you know it is there.

If anything, I would say that there isn't enough differentiation throughout the cue to provide emotion.

Dan

Ditto....   I think what you have is really nice.  The instruments sound good, the overall mix is pleasant and reasonably balanced.  I was just waiting for a stronger sense of melody although it's like Dan said - it is there, it just doesn't jump out.    But perhaps that's not a bad thing...

Art,

Sounds good, well balanced.   To me, it sounds like a really good backing track waiting for a vocalist to sing the melody.  There are cues there but no sense of melody as has been suggested.   Very nice listen.

What the others have said about the melody, but don't hear that as a negative.  You have something very strong here, it just needs a bit of a punch.

Agree with the consensus here: very clean recording and feels like it is a good setting for a singer to join.  It is rather short at 2 minutes, so i'm guessing this is perhaps an interlude before another track  -- maybe that is what you mean by 'cue'?  Kind of like 'Wasted Time' on Hotel California.  Maybe 'Victim of Love' comes next?

Nice blend of instruments. Drums seemed a bit lost to me.

I've gone back and listened to this again.  It's very appealing.  If I had to draw an analogy to classical music I'd say what you have here is sort of like a canon (think Pachelbel "D").  I could see this piece working as a soundtrack in a movie.  If that's what you're after then stop here.  If you're looking for more of a song then the comments above offer a lot.  Overall I really, really like this piece.

Very good instruments. Well recorded. Nice sounding tune.

I might bring the piano up for the first half, then let the violin dominate slightly (as it currently does) for the violin/piano duet to the end. The song could be lengthened by modulating near the current ending and restate the theme a bit more strongly. Or maybe a quiet break near the current end where some instruments drop out for several bars, then all back in again for a nice finish.

I think this works well as an instrumental. No vocal needed.

Very clean, very clear. Nice sounding track, like the slight dissonance at the end of the first section. Any nits I have would be a matter of taste and yours is the taste that matters.
