That is so true ...everybody loves Duke around here ...me ,they tolerate because somebody has to pick up his poop ..

I found out a very interesting thing about the chromebook , it is supposedly much more secure for being online than Win or OSX ...at least that's what folks that like and use them claim ...
If I don't sign in and use it as a guest for web browsing it is even more secure ...

Of COURSE a Chromebook is going to be more secure, they're almost completely useless!  Kenny, Kenny, Kenny...  I can't believe you fell for one of these!

Ha!  If you want the best, you have to offer the best I say!

I guess if those Chromejokes do everything you need then more power to ya!  I've only run into them once at a client (a private school) where they were almost completely useless for anything.

Hey Craig ,

At first I was gonna start this thread over in the computers section and use a title like ,
"Who here uses a Chromebook and do you find them useful ?"  .
Then I said to myself nahh they don't want junk like that over there ...over there it's all about the DAW

So I came here and decided to start the thread with a very misleading title ...

As we all know , having a very misleading title is a prerequisite here in The Coffee House right baps ...

I will admit that your Pink Floyd Facepalm photo motivated me to create my own unique Kenny version of a facepalm ...
The actor I wanted to use was not available because he was very busy doing a landscaping Gig
+  I enjoy making fun of myself when ever I can ...it cuts the edge and laughter is good for the soul

FWIW, I did not take offense to your comments about the chromebook .The truth is I pretty much felt that way myself about them until I actually bought one ...

I'm already loving this thing a lot ...
it takes about a whole 5 to 10 seconds tops to boot ...the online streaming kicks the pants out of every other computer I own ....I can finally watch u tube w out having to suffer ...same w online tutorials  and movies
I'm getting around 10 hours battery time ...
it has USB 2 and 3 and I have already used it VIA both as a way of playing local files off one of my back up hard drives ..
The drive I used is a 500 gig with backups of all my songs video's pdf's and any other number of things
I was surprised to see this thing play  24 bit Wave mix's I have done using it's media player ...MP 3's and all that Jazz it does...fine ...it Plays Mov files , Quick Time Videos ...the only format I couldn't get to play was AVI ...
Reads local PDF's like a champ , has Bluetooth yet I have connected my Bluetooth speaker VIA it's Aux in from the chromebooks headphone out ... the sound quality is no different than when I run the bluetooth speaker from either of my Macs from the head phone out ...
I plan on using this in conjunction with my DAW's in a very simple way ...I can run my DAW's offline with the Wifi off and place this little chromebook along side or close to my DAW so I can surf the web and do things Like watch a tutorial and follow along on my DAW ..or even hang here ...
Now some of the things I will use this for some folks do w their phones ..go online , watch vids ..look up things ..
The thing is I don't enjoy doing that on my phone because I have a generic LG or what ever it is and it sucks ...

I have no idea if I will eventually use any of the cloud services or apps  ...time will tell
Already this is so much better for me because I am so fed up with Windows constantly trying to nag me to death whenever  I'm online ...Now I get to tell Window to STFU ....and keep my DAW off line or for when I choose to manually update ..
as far as the privacy thing I mentioned in my threads title I can use this C B as a guest w out even logging in and everything gets flushed when I 'm done with my online session
I love it .....I can take Duke out in the country and if I get lost I can dial up a map ..
yeah I know folks can do that on a phone or on a GPS thing ..I don't have one ...

If all you want is a net surfer, it's perfect and that's all it was really meant to be. Some are dirt cheap compared to an ipad or other over glorified minimalist app running device you can take with you... and it has a built in keyboard (mostly because the screen is NOT touch). At the far end, MS's new Surface has got to be the biggest overpriced joke of the year.

BTW, chromebooks can run "normal" type stuff like word processors and spreadsheets but they're all online apps of Google's own making. I think Google was trying to be "cool" like Apple with a new mobile type device that's all proprietary and stuff. Problem is it looks and feels too much like a laptop and people expect it to work like one.

Like "Where's the Caps lock key?" "Where's the Delete key?" You have to use a series of key strokes to emulate one...
