  • Handy fix for anyone experiencing huge load times for Native-Instruments Massive or FM8

Hi - I was having HUGE problems with FM8 and Massive, from Native-Instruments, after some updates.

Any project with either FM8 or Massive would take FOREVER to open either synth in the Browser Synth Rack, and this also was occurring when running either program in stand-alone mode.

I DO happen to have nearly 10,000 presets in FM8 - don't remember how many for Massive, so maybe this issue does not apply to a lot of folks.

Anyways, IF you are tearing your hair out anytime you are attempting to deal with opening the UI, where it just takes forever (a couple minutes), or when switching to a different filter on the browser, I tracked down a FIX, which takes just a few mouse clicks to implement, and seems to completely turbocharge loading either program, as well as switching around in the Browser of either program.

1.  Open FM8 or Massive, in stand-alone mode
2.  Go to File>Options>Database
3.  At bottom of Database options, you will see a drop-down with a label above it called 'Database Hit-Count Display'.  Click on the arrow for that drop-down, and change the option to 'None'.

That's it.  Once I did the above, loading either FM8 or Massive became lightning-fast, as did moving around in the Browser - selecting different attributes or going into converted SYSX folders, etc.

No more horrendous load/processing times for either program.  Performing the above steps in stand-alone mode also fixed the problem for hosted instances within Sonar, so just apply the fix to the stand-alone versions and you will be all set in Sonar, too.

Wow, thanks for this. I have been having that happen in Absynth. Can't wait to try it.

For me, it was "Database" in FM8 and "Browser" in Massive and Absynth. Battery, Guitar Rig, Kontakt and Reaktor have no such option.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Thanks, Mudgel.  I cannot tell you how happy I am with the current FM8 performance, after applying that fix.  It's like a miracle.

10,000 presets??!!?? And people tell me I'm nuts for having over a thousand plugins.

Over 8,000 of them are all of the (meaning the entire published set of) original sysx data for the various DX-type synths released by Yamaha (DX7 and 9, TX, GS, all of them).

All of the above are converted into FM7 and FM8 presets, as both of those synths can directly read DX* sysx data.

Soooo, I AM Mister 80's.  But FM8 has all the effects and modern processing to make even these older sounds sound REALLY good.

I also have the complete set of EMU presets for Kontakt, as well as Komplete 8 Ultimate, so altogether I have well over 25,000 presets.

It is my goal to have more presets than you have posts, BWA HA HA!  :)

Thanks for this I will try it present performance in FM8 sucks. Clearly NI never implemented any indexing for this functionality. Well at least Cakewalk fixed a similar issue Rap Pro but NI never got around to it.

This fix makes my FM8 just about INSTANTLY responsive.  I hope it fixes your performance issues with it.  It didn't used to have issues, so maybe that setting came into existence in some update, or maybe just got set that way through maintenance.  Either way, setting it to None makes it FLY, and I am super happy with it.
