Some of you may know about this contest.... Guitar Center and On Stage along with Vince Gill..... yada yada..... etc etc...

So I saw it and liked the track and decided to jump in with all six strings...  and this is the first video thing I've done in some time....

There's the link to the video.... enjoy...

The details...  My Tele on the humbucker.... into a Joyo Ultimate Drive pedal into the Mesa Studio 22...  miked with the SM-58 and tracked into Sonar X1.  This was a fun project to work on.  I really liked that tone too.... gritty but smooth. No amp sims were harmed in the making of this video.

Herb,

Cool video..   Very well done.   Love that Tele and you play it well.  Sounds awesome through your Mesa Amp.

I also recently ran across one of your videos at PGMusic where you discuss how you incorporate and use Band-in-A-Box.   That video was very informative and prompted me to buy BIAB 2016 so make sure you get your cut:)

Daryl,   thanks.... yeah.... they never look like we imagine.

Mark.... I wish I did get a cut of every sale that came from my recommendations, but they take care of me in other ways.  Quite a few people are BB users as a result of the things I say about the product.   Great company and it's cool to be a spokesman of sorts for them. Nothing in this video is BB.... it's all Sonar.

Herb,

Yes, I read about that contest so figured this was a backing track less the guitar part. (No BIAB)   Your guitar part blends pretty seamlessly into the recording.   If just listening to the track one would assume it was all recorded together at a pro studio.    Very impressive recording.   Had been thinking about picking up a Tele, dismissed it, now thinking about it again:)   Good luck with the contest.

Regards

Mark... I used Sonar to record my guitar and then of course the mix was easy....

I bought that Tele a while back and almost sold it because it sounded so thin compared to my Gibson SG. I was complaining about the thin sound to another guitar playing buddy from back in the day, and he recommended the Joyo UD pedal..... he said "Invest $30 before you sell the guitar"...  not that pedals are the cure for everything , but in this case, it added just the right thing that the Tele needed.  The single coils tend to be thin, and the pedal thickened it up sufficiently that this humbucker fan is happy..... and yeah, that "Modern Tele" has a bucker on the bridge. And that's the PU I was using on this blended with the center strat PU.  5 position sw on it and split coil on the buckers.

Thank you Larry!   It was a fun project and a really cool country tune originally by one of country's hottest guitar players. A bit intimidating too knowing that Mr Gill will be observing and judging the videos.  Along the same lines if Steve Vai posted a similar project for shredders. How and what do you play to impress the master?

I didn't read any other comments...

Hey Herb -- your playing was smooth and in the groove, as usual.  But man, is that one of VG's most generic songs or what? :)  -- Wishing you the best in the contest...
