Hey Guys;
Got a brand new computer (as in two days ago).  I'm using an RME Babyface as my interface.  EVERY project is giving me toms of snap/crackle/and pop.  Sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies.  I've raised the buffer to the max and no relief.  Lower it to bottom and no relief.  Even a simple project with 2 vsti's/3 audio tracks/8 plugins causes dropouts.

Ran latency monitor and everything was super low except for hardpage faults.  That sucker maxed out in the red.

I've turned off Wifi.  Turned off anti-virus.  Turned off high def audio.  Turned off all sort of other processes.  No relief.

What am I doing wrong?

Jude, look under power management and see what the default throttle choking is set at.

In theory, the main chip can withstand the heat of 100% fire power, but the computer OS may have that pegged back to some crazy low percentage of function by default. My laptop was throttled to 15% and the Presonus external box was crackling like a popcorn popper. Blamed it for being a piece of crap. Opened the flood gates on the CPU and Presonus  works great at 256 buffer.

Let me know if you need more specifics as how to get to the proper power management panels. May not be the issue, but high probability that it is the issue.

Hi John:
Please do let me know how to set power management.  When I ran latency monitor that was one thing it pointed out.

Thanks for your help!!

Jude,

Trying a roadmap for win 10.

First go to the control panel and select Power Options.

Select “Change Plan Settings”

Select “Change Advanced Power Settings”

Scroll down and select “Processor Power Management”

Make sure not to alter the system cooling policy.

Look at the minimum and maximum processor state. If the max percentage is less than 100%, change it to 100%.

If the max setting is already at 100%, the problem is elsewhere.
