Hey guys, I'm just wanting to know how to set Sonar to record loops? Say I want just record for 8 bars and thats it? Is there a way to have it automatically stop recording at the end?

Basically I was wanting to create my own loops (like the default ones you'll find in the media library). And play around with them and see what I can come up with. I'm wanting them to be seamless and loop perfectly of course.

If you know of a better method to do this please let me know. Thank you.

If you want to record only 8 bars, punch will start recording at the beginning and take you out of record at the end.

I'd recommend comping, though. The other thing I do is just play, and crop to the measures I like best.

I wrote an article on making loops from scratch that I think is online somewhere, I'll look for it.

Man you are seriously raising the bar when it comes to forum answers. Hope they never create a sub forum named "Ask Anderton" TM

Funny you should mention that. True story: I showed up at PreSonuSphere one year where one of the speakers couldn't make it. As they knew I always came prepared to do more "just in case" they asked if I could fill a third slot. Sure, I said.

So they started advertising a workshop called "Ask Anderton Anything." Whoa!!! Well, okay...

It turned out to be TOTALLY cool. Of course I couldn't answer EVERYTHING but it was very well-attended so if I didn't have the answer, usually someone in the audience did. It became this giant free-for-all orgy of shared knowledge that ran from DJs to PAs. It was great.
