I'm not sure who lit the fire under their butts but I hope this trend continues with X4 and beyond because I can see more and more users moving the way of Sonar if it does.
Actually, Cakewalk lit their own fire. Roland is a smart and innovative company, but the combination just didn't seem to be the right fit. Gibson is the right fit, and that makes a huge difference.
I've appreciated Cakewalk for a long time, and have lots of friends there. When Gibson was looking into the acquisition, I had to ask myself whether this would be the right thing for Cakewalk or whether there could be a better option. After running down the list of companies in this industry, I really couldn't come up with a better partner than Gibson. Fortunately everyone agreed

.
Being the first major contender on Steam was also a big plus. I would love to know how many new Sonar/MC users there are from selling on there. Suddenly a lot more people know what Sonar is. :)
What with being used to score
Call of Duty, SONAR is starting to become to game developers what Pro Tools is to Hollywood film composers. We are picking up new users, but we need to pick up more...venues like Steam help a lot. I thought Cakewalk going in that direction was a brilliant move.
I made the analogy before that X1 was a toddler, X2 the troublesome but promising teenager, and X3 is the freshman college student soaking up knowledge and getting really good grades. I think that story arc will continue for a while...I'm wondering what Sonar's post-doctoral thesis is going to look like!
