Gibson is very committed to this venture, and Heny J has been generous in letting me spend time on Cakewalk given everything that needs to be done around here.

Just out of curiousity, what does Henry J think of Project 5?

yeah Project 5 would be an awesome addition to Sonar as an x64 multicore aware vst & standalone

There are some good perspectives here...

One thing I'd like to emphasize is that Cakewalk's future is no longer in doubt. Gibson is very committed to this venture,

Fortunately, Gibson seems to be letting CW run it's own house.

Very much so. Cakewalk welcomes ideas, but ultimately, how they run the show is up to them. And let me add they have some pretty cool and highly innovative ideas they're tossing around...I think Cakewalk is really going to shake up this industry.

It would be nice if this included a new synth, but I'm not optimistic.

Hasn't every version of Sonar included a new third party synth at least?

Regardless I'm all for concentrating on core functionality myself.

Cheers..

Funny you should say that.  To my mind and for my uses, Sonar as a totality is just one big synth and I see Cakewalk's instruments as the core of this synth.  Unfortunately, these instruments are getting a bit long in the tooth (as also seems the case for synths from other companies).

It'll be years before I master the instruments I do have, but already I see functions that would be nice to have but are absent or could be expanded.  I'm still waiting for a single peep out of Cakewalk indicating they remain interested in developing instruments.  Look at what's happened to sfz for example.

I guess as I have Komplete and all the cake synths I feel different. If anything I want less.
For me Sonar is one giant spreadsheet application, but nowhere near as boring :)

To be honest,
and I don't wish to be a total downer for those whom desperately need things"sorted",but I REALLY hope X4 is a little way off yet,I mean I'm only just coming to grips with the intricacies of the quad channel eq[I LOVE the fly out analyzer-I had it as a feature request]but I have to shell out for DECENT monitors[I have some 5" yellow coned ones, but they just DO NOT have even a smidgen of high mid clarity compared to a Tannoy Eaton that I use in conjunction with another passive speaker and Sony MDR-7509HD phones...in fact I HATE these monitors, and now the next gen has arrived they're worth ...not a lot,but to buy good monitoring[Event OPAL etc etc]which in Oz,are loads[sometimes 80% and even more!-and Event used to be Oz owned I believe?]of dollars[AUD]than Sweetwater, and the like, and then those stores ONLY sell such items to US residents only,or with insane shipping costs due to weight-and it's gotten a LOT worse in recent times.

Also my laptop has only lasted 2 1/2 years before breaking[I can still use it,but the cpu is reaching 90c!!! i7 2630QM[yes I know its dust buildup etc]but it's super fragile atm and I don't want to risk opening it up to clean it as this model is no picnic to open.
So yes,I'm almost totally at ease with where my X3 is at,the only things that really bug me are related to this computer, and I should be using my desktop, but many of the plugin licences I blew the amounts of machines through web user error, and and and,but long story it's in another part of this house big enough for it,but it's only comfortable in there in Autumn ,Spring,as it has no insulation and the owner[really nice old guy]we do not wish to hassle,so X4 in 2015 would probably be fine right here.

It seems like an annual thing so I'm bettin' Oct. we will see X4.  I'm going to hold off upgrading this time. (yeah right)  I didn't make much use of X2 so it was like jumping from X1 to X3.  Cakewalk is one of those few companies that are really into keeping its currents users with upgrade deals.

They might have to redo the whole app then.  P5 still works as is. I've seen it for sale on the MF and GC website. I'm tempted to play with it now.
