I am seriously thinking about purchasing the MOTU Ultralite-mk3 Hybred and thought I would check in here to see what others think of the interface and the company MOTU in general.  I would especially like to hear from those that use the unit.

I own the MOTU Ultralite MK3.

I can't get latency as low as I had hoped, but most of the time it's not important to me to have low latency since I monitor externally.

the USB connection (on my machine) has worse latency than the firewire does.  in other words, I have to set the latency buffers higher when connected via USB than I do when connected via firewire in order to keep the popping and clicking from sounding.

I also had problems with my motherboard onboard firewire chip.  I had to buy a TI chipset PCI card.

other than those problems, I do love the unit!  it's portable, the converters are clean and clear, the software works well (I typically use a light compression going in on vocals and bass and there's a decent software compressor and EQ in the MOTU Cuemix software).

the mic pres are very nice and clean.  I like them a lot for the clean fet gain if that's what I need.  they're better than my mackie mixer pres (caveat:  my mackie mixer is an older one, not one of the VLZ or VLZ3 models).

I have not had to deal with support, so I can't comment on that.

would I buy it again?  probably.  I do wish it had ADAT so I could connect more units - but you're supposed to be able to connect multiple units via firewire, I hope that works, but I haven't been able to test that yet because I only have the 1 unit right now.

Some issues as Beagle with USB connection. Also bought a FW/USB card with TI chipset and now it works flawless. I use the FW connection. Great latency on my machine. The effects onboard are great, and the Cuemix software easy to use.

I was extremely frustrated in the beginning using the card. This was a result of bad drivers in Win 7 and TI chipset. with new drivers these problem disappeared.

Now I am happy:)

I have the firewire version and I'm more than pleased.   The one or two problems I had over the last few years were due to driver updates that may have been rushed out, so to speak, but were always corrected quickly.

It's worked flawlessly otherwise, for me.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.  I went ahead and purchased the Ultralite and am waiting for it to be delivered.

Mine isn't a hybrid, it's a firewire only but I'm getting great results and low latency with it!

Hi. This thread is old, but I would like to chime in just to say how happy I am with the MOTU Ultralite mk3 Hybrid. I have been using a RME FF400 for about eight years, and I sold it because I had to buy a new laptop without FireWire interface, and I am not sure about the future of the FireWire. I am using the MOTU through USB, with Sonar X2 and Windows 8, and I consider it better (for me) than the RME FF400 because of its onboard effects. I do not notice the difference in quality, neither latency or dropout problems. I neither need the worck clock and optical I/O of the RME.
