Hi,

I am looking to build a 24 channel/24bit-96KHz  Full Duplex capable desktop for my studio.

I have been looking at using 3 M-Audio Delta 1010LT Cards Synced together with S/PDIF.

I also have two 50 Inch Plasma Screens I want to use for the control room (1 for track view/1 for console view etc.).  I was thinking a Radeon HD Card with 2 HDMI outs would work.

I am curious if anyone else has used multiple delta cards together, and if they have any suggestions as to building a computer system that will run sonar with the 24 channels of i/o and capability to run two large screens (without bogging down and dropping out).    Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'll chip in with this, although I am far, very far from being an expert in this matter;

I think you may have a problem with three M-Audio cards on your motherboard, although you do say you are linking them via S/PDIF. Can you do that? I'm not sure you can.

One thing I am sure of though, and I went down this route some time ago when I wanted to record 16 tracks simultaneously, ADAT is the better option, I think.

I still have my RME ADAT card, although I am laptop based now, and if I remember correctly I could, if I had wanted to, recorded onto 32 tracks at once, by using a second ADAT I/O board.

Not much help I know, but what I am trying to say is that you would, in my opinion, be better off researching an ADAT solution.

cheers

This can be done easy with an Allen Heath ZEDR16 with firewire interface.  No sound card needed but you are limited to 16 channels.  I think they released a 24 ch version.   Love my ZED.

Hi,

I checked out that ZED R16 board.   Real nice, but I have already spent $3K on a board and need to be able to input the 24 channels individually.

I have done a lot of reading on the net, and have not found much about using 3 cards together.

I am waiting for answers directly from M-Audio about this product, but am not holding my breath.

Has anybody on this site used 3 1010LT's?   And if so what were the performance specs on the computer running it?

Thanks folks,

Jeff

So, what have you spent $3000 on Jeff? Does it not have ADAT lightpipe? Should do for that price, in my opinion, but I'm a bedroom musician so what would I know.

Hi Synkotron,

I purchased a Mixed Logic M24 Controller, and that's why I was looking at the Delta 1010's.  Was considering the LT's but decided against it as the cards would be buried in behind the console desk and access would be just about impossible once installed (without moving furniture out anyway).   The one thing that I have found is that the 1010's don't have mic pre-amps which is kind of stupid.    Guess I will have to look at a couple of rackmount pre-amps.

Damn, I wish I knew everything before I needed to know it - LOL.    I am getting close but still not there.

As an update, I found the info I needed for a computer.  I picked up the following, and am starting to get excited as I see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

- ASUS P8Z77-V LX Intel 7 Series Motherboard
- Intel Core i7-3770K Processor - Quad Core, 8MB L3 Cache, 3.50GHz (3.90GHz Max Turbo)
- Viper 3 Intel Extreme Masters  32GB Limited Edition Memory Kit - 4 x 8GB, PC3-12800,1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V
- Thermaltake VN300M1W2N Chaser MK-I Full Tower Gaming Case - ATX
- EVGA SuperNOVA NEX1500 1500W Power Supply - 80+ Gold, Fully Modular, SLI Ready, Dual Rails
- Corsair Hydro Series CW-9060008-WW H80i Extreme Liquid/Water CPU Cooler
- Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 Ti GC 66NPH7DV6VXZ Video Card - 2GB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0(x16), 2x Dual-link DVI
- Corsair Force Series GS CSSD-F180GBGS-BK 180GB Internal Solid State Drive - 2.5" X 3 (1 solely for OS)
- LG BP40NS20 6X Slim External Blu Ray Burner with LightScribe technology

All this for only $2500 Cdn.   Smoking Deal.   Am looking at having technician o/c system to get best performance.

So I'm pretty sure I'll be going with the 3 - Delta 1010's rackmount version.  Just have to find some decent rackmount pre-amps and should be ready to start setting up.

I appreciate the help I have gotten, and will keep you posted as to my progress.

Cheers,
TheBadger
