How many mics do they put on a piano when recording a song?!

114.

Am I right?

Yes.
I'll take Grazing Animals for $400 please, Alex.

Yeah. Forget win7, (see above) I finally got my win10 laptop up 'n runnin' with X1 thru SPlat 32 & 64 bit. Kontakt 5 went smoothly too so I may try this thing out.

Edit: Beware 24GB download is taking 5 1/2 hrs @1.16 MB/sec.  (from Germany)

You'll also need to download the manual and quick start guide separately as the one in the download is German.

Very Nice! But I notice the short spread between soft and hard key strikes is rather unnerving.

Is there a way to adjust key velocity in Kontakt? I'm using a non weighted synth to play it.

Probably "hardwired" into the samples but the Velocity Histogram reveals this issue.

I put a series of midi notes in Piano View with velocity values of 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 127. The histogram and my ears reveal a sharp rise between 100 and 110 where it almost flat lines thru 127. When playing in real time it's hard to hit a key between 100 and 110 without giving you a sharp volume increase. This is the normal playing range. Weighted keys may make a difference but I don't have such a controller to compare.

[EDIT]
Here's what I get:
LEVEL   METER   RANGE
80         -32.2
                              4
90         -28.2
                              4.1
100       -24.1
                              5.1 <- big jump
110       -19.0
0.7 <- baby steps from here on
120       -18.3
                              0.2
127       -18.1

Inspite the velocity issue the sound is most likely the best out there. It easily trashes EZKeys which I just bought before this. }:-( At least it was on sale.

Did you check the velocity issue with support? Would be interested to know their view on this.

We'll see. Just shot 'em a note from their web page today.

As they mention in the manual, there's a lot of interface overload fizzles and scratches. You really gotta play with the settings to keep 'em at bay. I also notice it works best in 44.1 mode so I'm guessing that's the sample format as well.

Otherwise this thing is really awesome, ain't it? Never thought I'd say that about a piano sample. Right now I'm adding layers (string pad and "Mystic"). Total ear candy.

Did they record the samples in stereo? You can hear the keys pan left to right from the players point of view when playing up the scale.

It's absolutely wonderful. Especially what you can do with mid/side and top. And sound sculpting. As if they gave us a real Bechstein Grand with a computer built-in.
