Vote away!
1)  Yes.
2)  Hell yes!
3)  Absolutely and repeatedly!

As if their incredibly poor actual bandwidth compared to what you pay for isn't enough, they now have a flippin' data cap!  Comcast executives have admitted that its purpose is to simply wring more money out of their customers and they feel they can get away with it since they are usually a monopoly in the areas they provide service.

The cap here is 1 TB which sounds like a lot (and Comcast is trying to make everyone think that only 1% will exceed this, except all the forum comments I've read show this isn't close to true - especially for gamers with consoles).  The overage is $10 per 50 GB over up to $200!

Needless to say, I just started a Carbonite backup subscription so I blew through the data cap easily with over 4 TB's still to be uploaded.  Yay.

Once all the votes are in I can start another thread on HOW we should torture the execs...

I've never used cable for internet.

I have Frontier (formerly Verison FIOS). For $96/mo I get this out of my 75/75 plan.

It says I'm faster than 96% of the US and I think The Lovely Lady agrees.

Frontier FIOS user here, too. I elected to go with the 40GB/s plan to save money, but at that rate we can easily watch 4 different TV shows on Netflix at the same time. More important, I can download a large sample library in less than 10 minutes. Fiber up to the house, then CAT5 to my router. The 40 GB figure is no exaggeration, nor is it intermittent. Unlike cable-based internet, it isn't affected much by how many other users are on. The speed at 3 AM is the same as at 8 PM.

Prior to this, I had DSL (!) for many years, stuck there because I needed static IP addresses for my business. With DSL, it took 3.5 days to download Kirk Hunter Concert Strings.

DSL continues to be my only option here ...

As far as caps and pricing go, why blame the execs?  What about those pesky employees that keep wanting more pay and bennies?

IMO, this is a side effect of net neutrality.  They tried to charge by type ... now we'll pay more for everything

Note that this isn't about speed, but usage.  It's like having a cap on how many miles you can drive on the freeway even though you're already paying for the car, taxes and gas.

We're not talking about a finite resource like gas or oil, the limitations are purely artificial and implemented (as the executives freely admit) purely to screw consumers out of more money because they don't have any alternative choices.

That's what caused me to lose many TB's of data.  The external drive got corrupted AND the copy of that drive got corrupted.  Fortunately, I still had the information on my computer for the most important stuff or I would have been royally screwed.

There are two big differences with Carbonite.  The first is that the data is stored on the cloud and available from anywhere (while the external drive could easily be stolen or damaged).  The second is that (after the initial backup) it stays on top of the backups to the point where you finish editing a file and it's backed up in just a few minutes afterwards.  Very few people run their backups every day let alone multiple times per day.  Now, if I accidentally delete a file I created a few minutes earlier, there's a good chance I can get it back.
