Comcast needs to be spanked.  If it's not sh**ty connection speed or sh**ty customer service, they bombard me with upgrade spam.  And they also have some poor minimum wage wretch calling me to ask if I want their TV service  (I stream)  the answer is a big no.

Bapu's lucky he doesn't have Comcast.
(Heck, he'd probably only have 25,000 posts if he did!)

Use Acronis and a usb drive.

That's what caused me to lose many TB's of data.  The external drive got corrupted AND the copy of that drive got corrupted.  Fortunately, I still had the information on my computer for the most important stuff or I would have been royally screwed.

There are two big differences with Carbonite.  The first is that the data is stored on the cloud and available from anywhere (while the external drive could easily be stolen or damaged).  The second is that (after the initial backup) it stays on top of the backups to the point where you finish editing a file and it's backed up in just a few minutes afterwards.  Very few people run their backups every day let alone multiple times per day.  Now, if I accidentally delete a file I created a few minutes earlier, there's a good chance I can get it back.

Try Reflect with a USB drive ...

I switched from Acronis to Reflect a while back.  I like it much betterer

No matter how little I had to pay, my 4Mb/.75Mb connection would be worthless for online backups.  Hell, Firing up a new Win10 machine basically puts my network OOS for anything else for a good 2 days.

When we moved our ISP has data caps. My wife's machine is on Windows 10 and we had set it up for a 'metered connection' to avoid costly updates. Microsoft has now decided that it doesn't matter if you are on a metered connection or not- you will get their updates. Came real close to an overage last month thanks to this. Looking at trying to get her to switch to Linux or downgrading to Windows 7 - where we can at least have some control over the computer.

My next door neighbor is a Comcast installer / tech. "I'm on a hey how's it goin" basis with him.
They must pay well for this position (I see them digging out street side pedestals buried in 4' of snow plow crud with shovels) as these homes here aren't cheap and she's a stay at home mom. He's good to have around though.

We also get referral payments from the mother ship for referring businesses to Comcast from dsl.

That's the rosey part.
Some years ago when we switched from dsl to cable at our office we told em we need a block of statics as we have more than a few server boxes here. The installer they sent out did not know what a static ip was nor how to configure the modem accordingly. I told him maybe he should call in for reinforcements because I don't want customer's services to be down too much longer. he actually said "Well I have to learn sometime" - whaaaat?

Actually, I had Macrium Reflect, but the backup software wasn't the problem.  The external drive bay was.  The point either way is that now it's being redundantly backed up in the Cloud and I can get multiple versions of any file I need from anywhere there's an internet connection (once the initial backup is done that is!).

Comcast has been fighting net neutrality for as long they've offered internet access over their wires. Finding loopholes in the existing law, illegally throttling bandwidth, making backroom deals with Netflix and Hulu, financing the so-called "Restoring Internet Freedom Act", contributing to politicians that support internet deregulation.

Comcast is just trying to squeeze another dollar out of you, and if they can pull it off without actually providing service, so much the better. Imagine if they started charging you extra because you watch too much TV. OK, that might not be such a bad thing...

I'm on Comcast/Xfinity on my laptop downstairs. Router upstairs... don't know if it's good or bad but it seems fast enough.

IDK... seems to work. I update my DAW which is about 4 ft away with an ASUS USB WIFI adapter and it is never slow.

Should I be happy or mad? Just let me know...
