  • Sonar X3c crashing (p.10)

The error (1002) could mean anything, Sonar is not really pointing to anything (it should!).
You could try sfc /scannow (no harm) but I suspect it won't fix it.

I hope the install works, otherwise we need to rule out two things:
* Dodgy plugins (please post a list of your third party plugs)
* Whether the issue is with projects before X3, or are these new X3 projects.

I uninstalled using the programs uninstall. From the Sonar folder. Yes it is a legitimate license and it was a download. Antivirus was running during the original install. Quite possibly could have been the problem. The store will allow another download? Very nice of them. Thanks!
I'm not sure I have any third party plug ins, I have only been using what Sonar provides, which is more than I know how to use at this point. Thanks to all again.

Make sure to clean up the registry before re-installing
Here is a link about how to perform a clean install of X2 http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2817470. Other Cakewalk products have similar registry entries.

So have you used any previous versions of Sonar?

You can most certainly download it again from your account, that being the case.

You also need to delete the following folders (the ones in parenthesis):

C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk (SONAR X3 Producer)

and

C:\Users\Robert\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk (SONAR X3 Producer)

So, for the above, only delete the SONAR X3 Producer sub-folders, if present

And, you must delete the following registry keys, as well:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X3

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X3

(IF the above are found delete them - to get to the registry, run Regedit and be careful)

Just make sure you:

1.  Temp suspend antivirus while downloading and use something with a download manager, like Chrome.
2.  Launch installer with Run As Administrator - with antivirus software suspended

And use Regedit's Export feature to backup your current registry to the desktop, or thumb drive, whatever.

You can always reload this if things should go whacko

Ok, Thanks again for everyone's input.
I deleted all files requested and registry entries. Did a clean install with no joy.
I will refer this to tech support if they are open. Thanks again guys!

Does it crash with new projects or just old projects? Have you used previous versions of sonar??

Did things seem to work OK with X3a?  (That would have been the install from the download, prior to applying the X3c patch).

I am wondering if it is possible to determine if something in the X3c patch is exposing this situation.  If you have opportunity and interest, and had not already found trouble after X3a, you could consider uninstall and install again, this time without applying the X3c patch - then testing to see if things behave differently.

The above might provide additional information to tech support (or the forum) on what is happening.

I've never used anything but th X3c, and yes it's new projects. Usually playing with session drummer or SI drs when it stops responding. I really hate to keep bothering y'all with this problem. I might get something from cakewalk tech that may help. If so I'll post it here for others! Thanks guys so much!!
