I used to have a Frontier Tranzport...but I killed it when I didn't use it for a long time and the batteries leaked and destroyed it.
 
Now, I wanted to go out and buy a new one but apparently it's been discontinued.
 
I did a few searched but couldn't find anything similar - it was such a great device for under $200.  
 
What is everyone else using these days?

There are several apps for various tablets that can provide remote wireless DAW control via network and/or bluetooth.

Personally I use V-Control Pro running on an iPad.

very cool.  Does that v-control work pretty well for controlling plug-ins, etc?  Is it just native Sonar plug-ins it will work with or will it work with other 3rd party (Waves, UAD, etc...)?

So, I installed the app on my iPad and then downloaded the Ney Wi-Fi app to run on my PC.  It installs but when I run it...it doesn't seem to do anything.  It's in the tray but no options available and it just sits there and uses 28% of the CPU and the app on the iPad never sees the computer to connect to it.
 
I'm running Windows 8 x64...I didn't see it specifically called out but I noticed that you are running it as well and apparently don't seem to have a problem?

There's one here on eBay for $100.

I still use mine all the time and I have a second unused NOS unit in the studio closet as a spare.  This is such a useful controller.  They pop up from time to time on eBay.

Yeah, tablets and smartphones have kind of made that product obsolete. Shame, it was probably nice having a unit with physical buttons on it.
 
Also a shame because they made that other unit, the single channel controller, that looked pretty rad. Almost got one back in the day.
 

A good lesson for those of us that have this device to remember to take the batteries out after useing  the  Tranzport, huh?? Or for that matter anything that's got batteries..... Over time they do leak and damage our sometimes expensive tools sometimes these tools are no longer available....

Sorry for the slow reply, I tried last night but the forum software told me there was an "unknown error try again later" Ney-fi uses somewhere between 0 and less than 1% cpu for me according to task manager. I've no idea why it might use more on your PC. No, there are no options other than "exit". I have the PC connected to the router by ethernet cable, not wireless, and the iPad connects to the router wirelessly. If you've got the ney-fi/V-control configuration right is it possible there's a firewall interfering with the networking side of things?

If you've not done so I suggest you take a look at the FAQ page on Neyrinck's website. It includes a link to download the manual which is essential reading and includes instructions for using the app with Sonar. Hopefully that will point you in the right direction.

I don't use V-Control to remote control synths because I use hardware synths. The free version doesn't do much but at least lets you check you can get it working and provides basic control over the console side of things. The full version of the app can do much more, and I'm still working out the best way to configure many of the functions for how I use Sonar (which might be very different to you). Sonar treats V-control as a Mackie controller and it's far superior to Act in my opinion.

One thing worth doing is to disable the swipe gestures on the iPad while using V-control. Otherwise iOS will treat some of your input as intended to control the iPad. particularly irritating if you want to control four channel volumes at the same time.

Another very useful app worth looking at is Microsoft's free remote desktop client.

That's why I keep mine in a velvet lined walnut box, (with the batteries removed), when not in use.
