Yes, I know how to right-click the file, go to Cakewalk in my C:drive and choose Sonar X3 as my default program but it won't take. So far I have succeeded in having X1 or Internet Explorer (LOL!) to be default programs but no luck with X3. It used to be fine until I re-installed X1. Any ideas?

Project files open based on the registry entry
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CakewalkProjectFile\shell\open\command

I always had a similar problem but with the "open with" option. It always opens the first Sonar installed on my puter but I can't get to open with the version of Sonar I want. It always opens in 8.?? and would like it to open in X2.

It's not a huge deal as I only use the "open with" command for opening up midi files to work with. I've always just done that and save the project as normal and then open in X2. If I could get it to open in X2, I could uninstall all the previous versions I don't use.

Just run the X3 installer again and it should return to being the default.  Just unclick all of the options except for the program itself so as not to potentially mess up any current settings.

The same thing happened to me where X1 was the default after I'd reinstalled it.

For me it has always been the latest installation is default. No matter how many times I changed the OPEN WITH settings.

Thank you for the tip.

But, should not have to do other than use the windows dialog to choose the default program.

Are you using Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations?

This.

If this doesn't work, try Alex's suggestion.

Thank you. Went there. But under default programs there is no Sonar to be found. Am I missing something? Under default programs, the only option in the pull down menu is set default programs and there is no cakewalk or sonar.
