  • Clip louder after Melodyne edit

I recorded a few bars of fingerpicking on a nylon string which needed a little pitch correction. So I created a Melodyne clip (with the polyphonic algorithm), corrected the pitch, and bounced it back. Now the clip is considerably louder than the original. Thoughts?

Well, if your thoughts are louder too, then I doubt it's the software...

Otherwise, I have no clue.

did you have any effects in the FX bin or pro channel before you bounced?

Yes I have some effects in the PC. But I had thought that only the automation (if any) would be applied to the new clip.

I am sorry I don't have any helpful advice, but will go on record that post-bounce levels in Sonar have always been unpredictable for me—and not just with Melodyne.

If I have any effects in the FX bin, after the bounce, effects are always activated unless I disable them before the bounce.....try to disable PC effects prior to bounce and see if your levels are still affected......hope this helps

Hmm interesting, I will try that. Funny though, I've done a lot of Melodyne bounces before and have never noticed gain changes. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Melodyne does go screwy on me sometimes though - every now and then the pitch and quantize macro buttons will just stop working until I reload the project, and like others have experienced crashes when closing projects with active Melodyne regions.

I wouldn't think that, if you used the Bounce to Clips(s) feature, track plugins would come into play. I could see it if you used Bounce to Track(s), but, if that's the case, please let us know... 'cause that's... weird.

Nope. FXs are applied. It's a hassle but I usually move my clip to be melodyned to a virgin track. Edit. Bounce. Move back to orig tack.

FYI: I usually do this in the tracking-pre-mix stage as I will not yet have clip automation applied. I need the automaton before melodyne the I turn off all FXs (bin and chain and PC), bounce and then do the above process.

Let me get this straight - when using bounce to clips - FX, either in the ProChannel or FX Bin, are not applied.  If you are using FX in the clips, then maybe, but otherwise they are not.
