I just did 54 tracks in Windows 7 in Sonar 7, 12 or so of which are her vocals you download at 44100 - 24bit. It's in the signature, and although 4 years late to the party and probably too many parts in the song and actually not like her song (oh well) Sonar 7 ran fine (but no soft synth parts) although compared to my old computer (Pentium 4 vs. I3) it all recorded. But I am using an RME Babyface USB2.0 device with RME drivers and ASIO. It is going to take a bit of probably used devices to come up and only spend 60 pounds (English money) I suppose to complete your setup. Cheap mics can be had, and cheap interfaces, but that is what you get, although those can work also, it may take more work to make them sound good (I still am learning and whatever) so Good Luck. Get something that has good drivers though which is the most important part for ASIO used for latency in the recording. And if the Sony PC runs correctly I test it first with latency checker to make sure (or else you got problems that need correcting if they can be).

I have an old Yamaha ydp131 electric piano but it has midi in and out that's why I was looking at one with midi points but in the grand scheme of things I could always just get rid of it and get a midi keyboard - yes he gave them me he bought it and never used it

And you are going to have to find equipment that really supports Windows 8 with the interface, which may be a little hard to do without spending more. (??????)

http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml but other people mention another program that works with Windows 8 but I think it is not free, although I am not sure. Latency checker program - can be searched for I suppose.

Yeah I see your point maybe I will have to splash out a bit more to get some decent gear I'm just at a loss with all the talk of drivers etc I can find my way round sonar ok but no nothing about mics and interfaces

Interfaces that you buy (audio/interface) have drivers for each OS system. ASIO are drivers that allow (or correct for latency while you record - what you record and hear turns out to come out at the same time - otherwise with other drivers there is lag to account for and can throw you off while trying to record being a few milliseconds different in time). http://soundcloud.com/imogen-heap/dropbox/profile https://soundcloud.com/imogen-heap vocals at bottom for anyone who wants to fool around with it. I am not selling mine I think and have not heard from her, although after 4 years she may be done with that, and certainly there are enough different versions of the song now on her page done by whomever.

And I do not know if it can be sold without her approval since it is her vocals. ?? But that is okay, so listening is just allowed.

ok did a latency check and it says

current latency - 1009 us

maximum - 3664 us

i have no idea what the hell that means lol
