I like it for those complex evolving pads which get out of hand sometimes

Yep! Good technique. I frequently find myself tossing on a limiter (if not the PCCL) or a transparent comp to tame these types of sounds. Does the CA-2A work much better? I wish I could demo it again.

Yep it works great - not so much for sudden extreme spikes in sound (probably better to see what's happening at the synth level for that) but for those long evolving pads which sometimes swell above the level you want them in the mix. I guess that's why it's called a leveling amplifier. I'm working with a pretty crazy sound in NI's Skanner at the minute and it's great for taming that.

I'm sure it'll be on sale again, but this time only $19.99, just like the Concrete Limiter was at one time...or maybe $29.99 because of the difference in normal price between the two.

Is this worth having if I already own the IK version?

Your best option is to download the trial and find out. At this point I use only the CA-2A with my vocals despite having numerous LA2A emulations, because it really flatters my voice. But different voices (and instruments) react differently with different processors.

And now Pluginboutique.com no longer is offering it on sale Perhaps they posted the discount in error.

EDIT: Wait!  It is still on sale, but only after you add it to your cart. I guess now I must ask the question to get the CA-2A or save the greenbacks to go toward Fabfilter Pro-C!
