I am running sonar 6 producer, and I bought a Tascam US-1800.I like the 8 mic inputs so I can record a full drum set. It shows the drivers but I can`t get anything to record or play. I have been to the tascam website and downloaded whatever updates they have which is about none, and still nothing. If I can`t run with this audio interface then what kinds can I us? Or how to fix the problem with the one I have.

What interface was used prior to the Tascam?

I don't know which operating system you have, but I have a US1800 that works fine with Sonar and other DAWs on Windows 8. With the correct drivers you should be able to use it to record drums.

So your Tascam US 1800 has many inputs. Inputs 1 thru 8 are your mic pre's . Inputs 9 and 10 are are your Hi Z guitar inputs. You have to select the proper input that you will be recording from in order to have a signal for Sonar to record. I also have the US 1800 and mine does work, but I had to keep reminding myself to check the input that I was recording from. Also you can turn on or turn off all 16 inputs in the preferences. So check to see if you have the inputs selected that you are planning to record from. Also tell us a bit more about what source that you were trying to record and how you went about it.

Ok let me back up a little.I was running on windows XP,and I couldn`t get it to do anything on that so I had to stick with my E-mu 1212m,which I had no problems with. Then My computer bit the dust and I bought a new one,and now I don`t know if I can now use the us1800 because I can`t get the wave profiler to run the test.My new computer specs are,its an asus m11bb series 64 bit.3.7 gig amd processor,8 gigs of ram.Running on windows 8.1.I need to so get back to recording. Its driving me crazy lol

Ok now I have re-installed sonar 6,and it is now showing all drivers and I am getting playback.Haven`t tried to record yet, because now,I am getting major drop outs, and when I play a session back it`s like all the clips have been moved and not in time with the other clips, but it shows the clips in the track pane in their right places.Should i be set to ASIO,or WMD,or what.I have it set to ASIO right now,and I have tried to use the latency slider over to a safer position, but when I click ok and play again same thing, and the slider has been set to fast again when I open the audio options box again.

ASIO works for me with Windows 8. It should be the best choice for lowest latency.

You may need to run Sonar 6 in Admin mode with Windows 8.

Thanks for replying Ruben.I tried what you said, and it seemed to make things worse.I have tried moving the buffer size up from 128 to 512.The buffer slider is still reverting back to fast.I have tried changing the latency on the 1800`s panel as well. Now its just dropping out as soon as I hit the play button :(

Did you get the latest US1800 XP drivers from the Tascam site?

Open the US1800 Control Panel. Check the settings listed on the lower left and make sure that your Sample Rate is correct. Also, try changing the "Audio Performance" setting, which is the latency... mine is set to "normal latency" but you can change it and try it with different setting, and maybe one of them will work better for Sonar 6.

Just FYI, I have Sonar 8.5 working with Windows 8. Haven't tried any version older than that in Win8.

Yeah I did all that too Ruben.Sample rate is right,I`m on normal latency, and have tried other ones as well. I have use so many of these programs, all the way from music creator 2003,3,4,sonar 5 and now this one,and I have never encountered this much of a problem.I am missing something, somewhere.
