  • Making notes "move to" the snap setting not working...

I suspect this is something I'm doing wrong. I always have kept my magnetism on extreme and my grid on snap to as I almost always want notes to snap to 32nd or 16 th note boundaries. Then, if I want to just nudge something I set my main snap to samples and move from there. I don't ever mess with the "nudge menu" as I don't know exactly what it's for...and never use it. But since the last couple if iterations of X3 I quite frequently get situations in the PRV where notes...or the beginnings of notes simply will not snap to the settings I've selected. It's very frustrating. If there is something I'm doing wrong please hip me, will ya?

Basically I just want two settings...one where I can select the note value and everything will hard snap "to" that or one where I can set it to snap to samples and then freely move something where I need it.

I've run into something that feels this way a couple of times... But it turns out each time I was thinking as in the past and using N to enable disable snap... It doesn't work for PRV as you have to use the mouse to specifically enable/disable the PRV snap... I've written other threads about this as it's really a pain dealing with this current snap situation... The entanglement between global and PRV snap needs to be better defined/controlled... Keyboard shortcut need to work for PRV snap when PRV has focus and the grid needs to continue following the PRV snap even when PRV snap is disabled. It's very disorienting to have the grid suddenly change to the global value when the PRV snap is disabled... Very unintuitive for me...

Check if this is going on for you...

My problem is more like this: I'll have snap set to 32 notes and magnetism set to extreme. In the PRV I'll see I was a tad off on a couple notes, say at the beginning of a measure...they'll be just a hair off. Even though I have snap set to "move to" I cannot grab and move those notes and snap them to the exact start time. PInstead they act like the snap is set to a sort of weird "move by" setting and won't let me drag them where I want them. And even if I then change to "move to" and select 1 sample...it still won't let me move them correctly. Or even if I use N to disable snap altogether. It's a definite bug and it happens all the time.

What happens when you right-click the note and set a new start time for the note?

I don't...but I'll try that as well. Thanks!

Or just right-click-drag select offending notes and hit Q to quantize with your latest settings.

PRV has it own snap to/snap by settings. I'm sure you already know that but you might check the prv setting again to make sure it's snap to.

Any chance the track accidentally got locked?

I had a similar problem using staff view. The notes would not snap to any setting and it was a pain to find the right position because the snap was just broken. The only way I was able to fix it was to uninstall Sonar and reinstall it.

I hope you figure it out without going through that hassle. Sadly, it was less hassle to just do that in the end. I haven't had the problem since but who knows?

What am I missing? You keep saying this, but if I type N, it turns snap on and off in the PRV window, the in-line PRV in the track view, and the main toolbar. If I want to snap notes while in the PRV, I type N and when I want to slide them around arbitrarily, I don't. Is there some particular situation you've found where this happens?
