As to the original problem, try this: Go Edit > Preferences > Customization > Snap to Grid, uncheck everything under Landmarks, and let me know what happens. Sounds like you might be snapping to landmarks you don't intend to snap to.

Busy today at work and still can't log in or post from my office laptop but thought I'd hip you to this update. Went back to that project today (after the daw had been shut down all weekend) and guess what? No, go on guess. Everything running hot straight and normal again and I haven't changed a thing. Go figure. Maybe X3 just needed a little nappy nite nite time.

It's gremlins. Never feed your computer after midnight.

Could be Craig...but I doubt it. I've been with Cake since it's inception and seen way more than my share of just gremlins...as I'm sure you have as well, since we are contemporaries as it were. And so it goes. But whether it was my dimbulbed mistake, or simply an unnoticed omission or commission, it's just part of the wonderfulness of technology as it moves along the continuum. Don't know about you, but I wake up every morning to a brand new world.

I was experiencing the exact same thing in a project yesterday. I nearly responded earlier but thought that since I'd had my puter off all night I'd give it a look first. Problem was persisting.
 
Upon closer inspection I discovered the snap settings in PRV has it's own move to or move by option. There in was the solution for me.

Generally, I don't have many weirdnesses with any of the music software I use that I can't trace back to either pilot error or more commonly, not knowing about a function and therefore having something happen I didn't understand. Snapping to landmarks was one of those. Maybe microprocessors just like me or something. 

I've had this happen fairly frequently.  Snap-to-grid is enabled up top and in the PRV, but notes will not snap. I'm not a daily user, so what I've done to resolve it, I don't exactly recall, maybe turning off and on various settings, or just shutting down, and the next time I use X3 again, it's working.
