  • Windows 7 update last night - completely broken Sample Tank 3. Anyone else?

All the samples are screwed and ST3 won't even let me remove it from the synth rack, it crashes and takes Sonar with it.
I had 14 Windows 7 updates last night and this morning any project with ST3 (VST2) in it has been rendered useless.
Anyone else experience this?

Hmmmmm smells of corrupted project. Please check the windows event viewer and also check for sampletank updates. X3E I assume? Also run chkdsk on your drives. Are you running antivirus?

Cheers.

there were at least two updates in this month's batch that are causing issues on win7x64 machines, but the symptom is apparently blue screen on startup, so it might be worth researching that route?

BTW no issues with win7 at my end with the update although windows update decided to give me a 'google' driver update which I avoided (seemed odd). I generally ignore all driver updates via MS I prefer to download them at appropriate third party sites. Bad drivers often give BSODs.

If you are not getting a BSODs none of this will be your issue (inc links above).

Interesting. In another thread a while ago, I asked whether it seemed weird system problem threads increased after Windows updates. Maybe I'm not so crazy after all (at least in that respect).

Windows updates frequently cause problems of all sorts. That is almost inevitable, since there are literally millions of of unique system installations affected, and it is impossible to test against all but a few configurations. The good news is that usually the update process creates a restore point. If you want to troubleshoot a windows update problem, revert the system to that restore point. If that fixes it and you feel you need the updates try installing them manually one by one.

'Frequently' ... Sorry not any more...
'Occasionally' .. Certainly...
I have to say I feel windows update gets called as the boggieman far too often like cakewalk being blamed for dodgy plugins. This only serves to dissuade people from using windows update which on the whole is a good thing.

Yup rolling back to restore point is a possibility however from OP's symptoms I'm not convinced Windows update is necessarily the issue (no need to disagree with me btw, I'm NOT saying it isn't a windows update patch either as there's not enough info). Windows event viewer may shed some light and some answers on #2 would be good...

Cheers...
