  • Will we have to buy the next version to get rid of the disapearing NOW LINE bug? (p.6)

Sorry Alex, I already deleted my post since it was out of line...

[might be cranky since two of my favorite teams just got bumped out of the World Cup tonight...]

Don't wanna start a fight, but vintagevibe is a veteran poster here, so let's cut him some slack right?

Thanks Sven.  There is a small group of people that get very defensive here but I just ignore it.  I've actually been on this forum since it was a News Group if anyone remembers that.

how often does it happen (we don't know if it's once a month or once a minute), does the now time disappear in only one view or all views, or whether any of the workarounds that worked for people with X2 solved the problem in X3. And if no workaround solved the problem, that's a clue as well.

I happens maybe every 5th session.  Wasn’t aware of workarounds.  I have enough workarounds in Sonar already.

The biggest problem is that given the lack of mentions of this with X3 and the large number of mentions with X2, the vast majority of users are not experiencing this problem. If something is specific to only a handful of systems, the lack of a fix isn't due to a desire to force people to upgrade, which the thread title seemed to imply and is the main point with which I take issue.

I wasn’t implying that they would do it on purpose.  I only wanted to know if it would be fixed in this cycle without me have to upgrade to be rid of it.  I was unaware that others didn’t see it in X3e.

Another possible answer is "no" if some other update in your system fixes the problem due to there being an undesirable interaction with Sonar rather than a specific problem within Sonar.

Then I tend to think that it won’t be fixed in this cycle since only a few are experiencing it.  Also I think it is far more likely that it is a Cakewalk issue since they apparently “fixed” it once.  In the last few years I’ve called Cakewalk several times but have gotten little actual help and long-time bugs see to never get fixed.  Even if I had time to spare, trouble shooting Sonar has become a rabit hole that has led nowhere.  I really just wanted to know if they were going to fix this.   As I pointed out, given that they apparently fixed it for most, isn't it highly unlikely that they would fix it again this cycle even if someone pinpointed the problem?

Did any of the workarounds work, like typing "I" twice?

I can find no mention of an AMD Radeon HD 1540 or ATI HD 1540 on AMD's web site or on the web. There are no drivers listed for support. Apparently their first series was the HD 2XXX series. FWIW I did find multiple graphics issues reported by gamers using Radeon graphics cards. It's possible the disappearing now time in X2 that was noted by multiple users in X2 is a different issue entirely than the one you're encountering in X3, but just happens to have the same symptom.

The easier it is to reproduce a bug, the more likely it will be fixed. But given that I couldn't find any reference to the graphics card, don't know if any of the workarounds worked for you (which could give a clue as to what might fix the problem and where to look for it), it's an intermittent issue that happens sporadically, and has only been mentioned in this forum by two people (and the other one was seven months ago and he didn't follow up), at this point I think it would be extremely difficult to find the problem, let alone fix it - especially if it's system-specific, which certainly seems to be the case or other people would be corroborating your experience.

FWIW I'm using a Radeon HD 5450 without issues but I'm not running Windows 8, which was often referenced in web reports of problems with HD series cards.

That video card was a typo.  It's actually a Radeon HD 5450.  (I think my last build had a 1540)  I'm working on Cubase projects currently and the problem is intermittent so I don't know if the workarounds work.  I have no graphic problems with any other software on the system.

At least in X2, the time line is the only graphical element which is drawn differently from everything else in SONAR (for whatever reason). I have not checked with X3 yet.

What do you mean by this?

I'm a games programmer and work with graphics daily, so when people suggest this is a video card problem rather than a Sonar problem, I am very sceptical. But perhaps there is something more to consider here, and you know a bit about it?

Apparently there was also an issue with Enable Desktop Composition having to be enabled in Windows

That confirms my observation with X2.

I develop my plug-in under Linux. So I had to make SONAR somehow  running under wine. The NOW LINE is always on top there, visible  over all other windows. If you are game programmer, you can understand the reason - one of the possible ways to optimize redraw speed. But then Desktop Management is involved in that process, with all possible consequences.
