This song literally rocked while being laid back. Really a good song and superbly performed. One thing, I am perhaps the only one to think this way, your voice is very clean. I am not good in sound processing but in my opinion songs of this kind would benefit if some distortion was added to your voice to make it more raw. I read that there are also techniques to make a clean voice more gritty. Then again I am not criticising your voice, au contraire you have a great voice. More grit can always be added but I think it is difficult to do the opposite. Also there is nothing wrong in singing hard rock with a clean voice but I personally love a hard rock voice with a bit more grit. I hope I was not giving stupid ideas or false information. I would also like even more bass guitar power but my ears or not the most expensive koss portapro headphones can also be at fault.

Just what I needed for a wakeup tune to accompany my morning coffee! Thanks for sharing it with us.

If I was sitting at the board tweaking, I'd see what pulling up that great bass does for the song. Maybe just during the solo breaks.

A couple of timing issues on the vocal here and there but great stuff Bob - love the lyric on this one.

Hey, Rob,

How's it going, bro?  Hope you're doing well and selling a ton of your great new album, your stuff is always excellent!

thanks man, but nah, everybody's pretty much ignoring my release,
very few sales,
very few comments.

Thanks for checking this one out for me and for your very good advice and comments!

For this second mix, I took Tapsa's and your advice, and beefed up low end on the kick and snare, lowered the vocals quite a bit, and bumped up the mids on the bass guitar.  I'm hoping the mix is shaping up and coming across more balanced.

I really appreciate your input, and detailed suggestions on how to get back on track with this one, and I'm truly grateful for your support and friendship!

Have a good one!
Bob

you know, sometimes 'boosting' on bass, isn't the way to go...
sometimes, that only adds mud.
to get a little deeper into it,
i'd suggest looking at the bass thru a freq analyzer, and figuring out where the bass PEAKS are, at what frequency,
and instead of boosting everywhere else, CUT at those frequencies, so that are closer to the other freq levels.
then, bring the entire bass track UP in level, til it's really strong in the mix, but is not boomy anywhere....
that way, you get all the good harmonics that you captured WITHOUT having to boost (which often times causes masking issues elsewhere, and creates linear phase issues)

Hey Bob! how've you been my friend?

your songwriting skills are top notch!
your guitar playing is killer!

the mix is still in need of a lot of work, IMO.  I second all the stuff bat mentioned (and Daryl's right, too, there area  few timing issues with the vox, those can easily be fixed with AS in sonar)
the drums and bass really need some "cajons" if ya know what I mean.

but great song and outstanding playing and singing!

Hello Mr. Oster, There are three things that I love about you.
1.  The amount of work you are able to produce, and it is all good.
2.  The way you continually try to improve your mixes.
3.  The way you contribute to make this forum a better place.

I'm not sure that I can add anything from a mix point of view.  It looks as if the heavy weights have chimed in and I will always defer to them

I do have to say that this piece has a lot of interesting changes and if it were me it would take a lot of focus to keep it all together.  I'm sure you'll suss it all out cause that is how you work.

Thanks

Jesse

You're cranking 'em out lately Bob! Very cool track, loads of arrangement details that keep up the interest. One thing that detracts for me is a very slight timing issue with the lead vocal and the groove, like the waveform needs nudging back a hair (I think). It's not much, but it just stops me from headbanging..and you know I need to! . The parts 'you live on your life on fire' etc are OK but listen to 'she likes to rock' at 1:43 for example, it's definitely out of sync there.

Cool song!    Great hook as always - a Bob specialty IMO - and the playing is spot-on.

I also do hear the timing issue mentioned above where the vocals tend to lag behind, which personally I would focus on first.  The mix can always be tweaked but the song deserves priority.
