This is a three year old thread. I have used autosave and versioning for as long as the features have been available and plan on continuing to use them.

Like so many others, I do Ctrl-S often and "Save As" for major changes. These are the "real" saves and are always the most current. (If an Auto-saved file is more current, I know it's just a safety.)

HOWEVER, I also have Auto-Save enabled because it gives me the "right to be careless and sloppy." I try to work really fast in the studio because I believe inspiration is fleeting (check out my blog post re: songwriting with Sonar). So if I nuke something by accident or whatever, I always have a fallback. Auto-save has saved me enough times that I keep it enabled. When a project is complete, I "Save As" the entire project and delete the original...although I sometimes copy over some previously-saved files just in case.

Enabling auto-save does not impact the manual saving process at all. It's a supplement, not a substitute.

I do this a lot like Craig and others. Ctrl-S frequently, Save-as for version changes, but auto-save is also there set for every 10 mins. I typically never lose anything significant.

And for a moment I thought Bub was back amongst us.

I like to 'save as' each project with a different number on the end e.g. 'myproject000', first edit 'myproject001', tenth edit 'myproject010'.

Save is destructive. The file can be corrupted. I only use save-as. Learned this habit nearly 30 years ago programming spreadsheets.  I remove the save button if possible in every application I use.  I encourage my clients to do the same. Sonar should have a save-as button.

If sonar's auto-save properly added the date/time to the name, and not append "auto-saved' to the beginning of the file name, everybody would be extra happy.

The annoying bit is bounced wave files are named with part of the project name.

For bouncing to tracks I add the track and name it first so I have a reasonable file name.

Three years old!  I wonder what the limit is on informative value of an idea?

Classic. OP starts out 3 years ago wondering if anyone uses it.

Comes back three years later to extol it's virtues.
