I Loathe cds... In the uk we had a show called "Tomorrows World" which ran a feature on CD's...Apparently you could spread Jam on them and they would still play, they were indestructible...

What a crock of brown stuff. CD's scratch easier than a scratch and sniff and when they are broke, man they are broke.

I'm really into labels like Sub Pop and Touch & Go, independent rock and theres something so magical about picking up a Sup Pop 7" on coloured vinyl...I love the smell of vinyl, the feel of vinyl and THE SOUND of vinyl.

I also used to run 3 Drum and Bass labels and we pressed on vinyl only, happy days....Digital came along and record sales plummeted and we had to fold the labels.

I couldnt give a rats ass about loudness wars.

Well for one, vinyl can't be easily pirated...

I like to play my old vinyl records every once in a while, but I don't treat vinyl records like a religion unlike most vinylphiles (you know who you are...). I think a lot of the vinyl vs. CD debate is centered in how CD stole the market from vinyl starting in the late '80s, and much contempt came out of that. Most vinylphiles don't seem to have the same kind of hatred for MP3s despite the fact that MP3s sound inferior to CDs., so yes the argument is mostly rooted in nostalgia and emotion.

Because it's evident that CDs get scratched too.

Yes CDs can get scratched, though if you play a scratched CD through certain high-end players, it can pretty much ignore the scratch altogether. For vinyl, a better quality stylus will give you better sound fidelity for sure, but it still can't hide the scratch.

Well I still have a turntable, still have my collection of vinyl records from the 60s, 70s and early 80s. Every once in a while I will play something that didn't get replaced with a CD. I always wonder why the album seems so short, then I remember that I have to get up and turn it over to hear side two.

So that is why vinyl is better. Unlike CDs which only have one side vinyl records have two. And two is more than one...more is better. It is akin to my 56 Fender Twin Reverb's volumn knob going to 11. Eleven is more than 10 so it's better.

Vinyl is making a comeback because of the cover.  Some albums have four sides to read and reading is the biggest reason for the comeback.  The people with the most disposable money are us baby boomers.  As we get older our eye site gets poorer and we can no longer read the print on the CD paper pamphlets!  Bigger covers equal bigger fonts!

I still have a set of 45 RPM vinyls that my Day bought in 1949 or so. Altogether there were about 30 platters.   Roy Rogers' Lore of the West (with Gabby Hayes) was my favorite at the time.  If you are interested ... have a listen!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50WLgVYlCYw

Your logic is Rock solid! I love it!  It's the same logic that suggests  because it is a "56" Fender  the volume must therefore go to 11 since 5 plus 6 equals 11! Ya just can't argue that  ... right?

I remember the marmellade stunt. Is it on YouTube? I've looked for it in the past. In the meantime I have to do with this...

In fact it was mentioned here:

They say the jam bit was a myth but I particularly remember they did use a spread of some sort.
