wanna love X3
really do. trying x3e right now (from 8.5.3) and there seem to be some core weirdness at the most
basic level. I'm just looking at the core of the software and the simple stuff that trully made my workflow
faster than most.

I do have a tendency to compare with 8.5.3, simply because of the counter-intuitiveness I'm faced
with in X3e.

the first subjects for me are :

-insert bin menu lag in 8.5.3 vs X3e (SOLVED)

-basic midi track tweaks in 8.5.3 vs X3e

-lanes vs layers

more to come, share your thoughts and let me know if I missed something in my assumptions!

I watched your videos in which you show the menu lag and the track inspector issue.

I can tell you I don't have any of these problems.

What video card are you using? Could you share your system specs?

For the Time Value changes on the midi track, you can use shift enter to get into the edit mode for the parameter. You can use the [ ] keys to alter the values by musical increments. You can just enter a value of course.

Please give us some more information to go on, so we can better respond to your thread, such as listing your system specs (like you see at the bottom of my post, in my forum signature), and also please provide your settings for the following:

1.  For your audio interface: Sample Rate, ASIO Buffer Size
2.  For Sonar: Sample Rate, Driver Mode, Record Bit-Depth, reported latency values.

Thanks, (I will go and look at your YouTube link while waiting for your response to the above),

I'm using an ADK laptop ( the 8600HW, NVDIA Geforce mobile, tailored and tweaked for audio)
My point is it's happening in X3, not in 8.5

For the time switch, Shift-enter is actually longer than double clicking on the paramater but this is not addressing the
issue that I am having

hey there

Pretty powerfull unit, ssd, 6gig ram, powerfull videocard, made for audio etc etc

1 and 2 are pretty irrelevant to my issues since they're mostly UI and workflow related, but
for details-sake I am using an RME UCX, asio mode, anywhere beetween 32sample to 1024, 24/44 without
a hitch.

thank you

What OS and bit depth? How much memory? So far to the best I can recall no one else has mentioned this.

The behavior in your video is not normal. It appears from your video that there's no master bus? Also the graphics problems are really strange, so I suspect a screwed-up installation. I suggest returning to the system restore point prior to installing Sonar, restoring, making sure any anti-virus and spyware programs are turned off, and re-installing Sonar as Administrator (ie. right-click on the exe and choose run as Administrator). I don't recall anyone on this forum having a similar problem, so unfortunately I don't think you'll see any "I had the same problem, here's how I fixed it" answers...good luck! (Or if I understood your accent, bonne chance!).

I too had fx bin lag for a while. Drove me crazy!!  It took a lot of searching to find the problem(s). The part of the way solution was to upgrade my video card and also some houskeeping to remove some older or poorly written plugins. I also had snappy response with the fx bin in previous versions of sonar, including X1 and X2. So it is an X3 thing, but that doesn't mean it's a bug. X3 is built differently and I found I needed to stay with plugins that are either better written or more suited to X3. Typically most plugins were fine, but I knew I had way too many old freebies loaded.

Another note: My problems with the fx bin really started becoming noticeable after I loaded the LE version of Cubase that came with some hardware. Even though I uninstalled CubaseLE, the problem stayed.

And finally, last weekend I reformatted my hard drive and reloaded the OS and only the software I needed. It had been over 5 years and I had about 50 gb of crap camping out on my OS. Now, everything including a snappy fx bin is working great. My 5 year old machine is fast, sonar X3e is running great at low latencies. (I have a studiocat daw)

I hope some of this helps you as you try to find the root cause of your observations. It may require some time and effort to undo something that is interfering with X3. My ultimate solution was to have a clean OS. It was needed anyway.

Cheers

That's the third time I've read a reference to having Cubase installed causing issues in Sonar. Seems there some kind of special ASIO driver they install to accommodate on board sound users.. correct.
I'm about to re do my OS over to Windows 8 on my DAW and do install Cubase LE 5 as a matter of course just to use it for occasional midi editing. I can't say I have had any audio issues at all, but now I'm curious.

There is a master bus, the "none" refers to the automation lane on the master bus Craig ;).
Bus output denomination is right below, "adKntrl1".

As far as installation my stuff is pretty light and streamlined. I will definitly look at video drivers and all with the people at ADK, but I'm afraid I already know what they'll say, it will be along the lines of "well if all applications BUT this one behaves like that, then it's that application" and franckly, that kind of logic suits me as well :/
